Todd and Julie Chrisley, stars of the long-running reality series Chrisley Knows Best, have been granted full presidential pardons by Donald Trump, marking a dramatic turn in their ongoing legal saga.
On May 27, 2025, President Trump revealed the news during a phone call with the Chrisleys’ children, Savannah and Grayson. “Your parents are going to be free and clean,” Trump told them, calling the couple’s legal ordeal “a terrible thing,” and expressing hope the pardons would be finalized swiftly. “I don’t know them, but give them my regards and wish them good luck,” he added.
The couple had been serving time in federal prison following their 2022 convictions for tax evasion and bank fraud.
Prosecutors alleged that the Chrisleys submitted false documents to secure over $30 million in bank loans and hid income to avoid paying federal taxes. Todd, 56, was sentenced to 12 years, while Julie, 52, was sentenced to seven.
The legal fallout led to the cancellation of Chrisley Knows Best in 2023, which had aired on USA Network for 10 seasons. Still, despite their convictions, the couple maintained their innocence and appealed the verdicts. While a federal appeals court upheld their convictions in 2024, it flagged an error in Julie’s sentencing, leading to a resentencing process.
The couple’s legal troubles began in 2019 when they were indicted on multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax fraud. Their former accountant, Peter Tarantino, was also convicted and sentenced to three years in prison.
Despite the prison terms, the Chrisleys remained in the spotlight. Recently, Lifetime announced a new unscripted series focused on the family, titled The Untitled Chrisleys Project. The series marks their official return to television, and according to network reps, “nothing is off-limits.”
Reaction to the pardons has been mixed. Supporters believe the couple was treated unfairly, while critics argue the move undermines the justice system. The White House has not offered additional comment.
