Brittany Cartwright Says Jax Taylor Skipping His Meds Led to the Worst Days of Their Relationship!

Brittany Cartwright is pulling back the curtain on the emotional rollercoaster of her marriage to Jax Taylor, detailing what she describes as their “worst days” amid his mental health struggles.

In the May 13 episode of The Valley: After Show, the 36-year-old opened up about Jax’s alleged bipolar diagnosis and how it impacted their relationship—particularly after his rehab stint in 2024. While Jax, 45, appeared surprised and tearful on the latest episode after being told he was bipolar, Brittany revealed this wasn’t news to her.

Jax went to a doctor a year before [his rehab visits] and came back saying that they told him he was bipolar then, too,” Brittany shared.

“That prescription sat in my junk drawer, and he never got it filled. Me and his sister would beg him and beg him, ‘Please just try,’ and he never got it filled.”

She also recalled how his outbursts and the aftermath of his benders took a toll on her. “I will say that I can tolerate him around… I don’t have to worry about after he’s out on a bender because those were the worst days ever. The next day, the come down was just so incredibly \[bad],” Brittany said. “It’s very, very up and down.”

Jax, on the other hand, offered a slightly different version of events in his own After Show segment. He confirmed that doctors initially told him he had depression but later identified bipolar disorder during his time in rehab.

“I didn’t get the prescription filled—the first time,” he admitted. “Then I got the prescription filled the second time with Lexapro, and I took it for about two and a half weeks.” But when he reported back to his doctors that the medication wasn’t working, they told him, “‘You’re clearly bipolar. You should be on medication.’”

“I cried my eyes out when they told me what was wrong,” he recalled. “It was just like, ‘Thank you God, finally I found something that I can take that’s gonna fix this f*cking problem.’” Jax now says he’s fully committed to treatment. “I needed the medication, and I’m glad I’m on it. I don’t have blowups anymore at all,” he said.

Still, not everyone is buying the narrative that Jax’s diagnosis is new information. Zack Wickham, a friend and castmate, claimed, “He’s been diagnosed with that before. That’s not an epiphany.” The After Show also touched on Jax’s ongoing dynamic with Brittany.

During taping, Lala Kent pointed out that Jax had texted Brittany 14 times—behavior she found concerning.

A flashback showed Brittany visibly annoyed as she looked at her phone: “Why the hell is this guy calling me over and over?” She eventually picked up, asking Jax, “Why do you keep calling and texting me?” “I’m just checking in. What’s going on?” he asked. “You know I’m filming the After Show,” Brittany replied.

Still, Jax continued the conversation, saying he had a “bad day” involving car trouble. When Brittany tried to end the call, Jax responded, “Why are you being so mean?”

“I’m not. I’m not being mean,” Brittany said calmly. “I have to film.” As she hung up the phone, Brittany turned to producers and asked, “What is my life?” Season two of The Valley airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
