Ally Lewber Reveals She Stayed With James Kennedy Despite Red Flags, Says He Was Secretly Drinking Before Arrest!
Ally Lewber is opening up for the first time about the night her ex-boyfriend, Vanderpump Rules alum James Kennedy, was arrested for alleged domestic violence—and how she’s moving forward after the emotional fallout.
In an exclusive interview with People, the reality TV personality and astrologer reflected on the December 10 incident, which occurred just hours after the pair had attended Kathy Hilton’s star-studded holiday party. “It was such a high and a low week,” Ally shared.
“We had just recorded my first episode of my podcast StarStruck, and James was going to be my first guest… then the next night was the Kathy Hilton night.”
According to Ally, James had been drinking secretly during the party. “I was suspicious, but I didn’t think he had broken his sobriety,” she said.
“When we got in the Uber, it kind of spiraled. I was like, ‘You’re obviously drunk.’” She explained that the situation intensified when they returned home and continued arguing outside. “I don’t know who called the cops, but the cops showed up,” she said. “I was not hurt physically. Emotionally, yes.”
Although prosecutors declined to file charges, a police report noted that a woman claimed her boyfriend “lifted her up and threw her to the ground.” Ally emphasized the altercation was verbal, adding she requested officers to administer a breathalyzer, which they couldn’t provide, but confirmed James was intoxicated.
After the incident, Ally took time away from the home with support from a friend and her mother, eventually moving out. “At first it was just space,” she explained.
“But I learned he had been drinking behind my back.” Through therapy, she recognized the toll the relationship took on her well-being. “I never felt unsafe physically,” she said.
“But I was always walking on eggshells.”
Her therapist helped her connect her past—losing her father to alcohol-related issues at age 11—to the relationships she’s drawn to. “She told me, ‘You’re trying to save your dad.’ I never would’ve thought that.”
Now, Ally is focusing on healing, living independently in Hollywood and launching her new podcast. “I probably would’ve stayed if it wasn’t so public,” she admitted. “But I’m grateful it happened. It was the wake-up call I needed.”
