Kandi Burruss Dropped From $200K Lawsuit as Her Company Fires Back By Countersuing!
Kandi Burruss may have stepped away from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but the drama hasn’t slowed down — and this time, it’s centered around her restaurant business.
The Grammy-winning singer and Broadway producer, 47, has been facing legal issues tied to her Blaze Steak & Seafood restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia, which she co-owns with husband Todd Tucker.
According to court documents, the couple’s restaurant group, Burruss Tucker Restaurant Group LLC, was hit with a lawsuit by their landlord, who claims they owe more than $150,000 in unpaid rent, plus an additional $57,000 in repair costs.
But in a new twist, Kandi Burruss has officially been dropped from the lawsuit. Although the restaurant group remains a defendant, she is no longer personally named in the case.
Not stopping there, Kandi is now taking legal action of her own. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Burruss and Tucker’s company is countersuing the landlord, alleging that structural and plumbing issues in the building — which the landlord was supposed to fix — caused serious water damage to the restaurant.
While Kandi and Todd acknowledge they’re responsible for most maintenance, they argue that foundation-related repairs fall squarely on the property owner. So far, it’s unclear how much money Kandi is seeking in her countersuit, but sources say the businesswoman is committed to fighting back rather than settling.
The couple’s restaurant ventures have had their fair share of criticism over the years. In 2021, their company was reported to owe over $5,000 in back taxes.
On social media, customers — and even fellow celebrities — have taken shots at the food and service at both Old Lady Gang and Blaze Steak & Seafood.
Most recently, singer Tamar Braxton slammed the restaurants in a resurfaced video, saying, “Nobody has yet to say how nasty Old Lady Gang is.” She didn’t stop there, adding, “And if your food comes out cold, you gotta pay for it anyway. And if your food is wrong, you gotta pay for it anyway.”
Braxton’s comments echo similar frustrations from popular food critic Keith Lee, who called out Old Lady Gang in 2023 for not accepting to-go orders — a policy that sparked widespread backlash. Darius Cooks, a chef, called her out as well.
While Kandi hasn’t directly addressed the fresh round of criticism, she’s clearly not backing down in court. As her restaurant empire faces scrutiny, she’s proving once again that she knows how to defend her name — and her businesses — with the same fire she brought to reality TV.
