Hannah Berner APOLOGIZES After Megan Thee Stallion Oscars Interview BACKFIRES!
Hannah Berner is addressing the controversy surrounding her viral Oscars interview with Megan Thee Stallion. The Summer House alum and podcast host faced major backlash after making a comment that many deemed a “microaggression” during the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty.
During her red carpet chat with Megan, Hannah attempted to fangirl over the rapper but ended up making an eyebrow-raising statement instead. “Your music has literally made me want… when I want to fight someone, I listen to your music,” she told Megan.
While the Bigger In Texas artist remained unbothered and laughed it off, fans did not. Social media quickly erupted, accusing Hannah of stereotyping the rapper and associating her music with violence. Many users pointed out that Megan’s music promotes self-confidence and empowerment, not aggression.
Others questioned why Hannah and her Giggly Squad co-host, Paige DeSorbo, were chosen to host such a high-profile event in the first place.
Following the backlash, Hannah took to Instagram to issue a public apology, acknowledging her poor choice of words. “Interviewing Megan Thee Stallion was a dream of mine. I love her music, and it’s my go-to whenever I need to boost my confidence before a show,” she wrote in her Instagram Story.
Hannah admitted she regretted the phrasing of her comment, saying, “Looking back at the interview, I wish I used any other word except ‘fight’ to describe how her songs impact me.” She concluded her statement with an apology directly to Megan.
“It was a careless choice of words, and though there was no ill intent, I recognize and acknowledge that what I said has a deeper meaning, and I am so sorry to Megan. I appreciate everyone who brought this to my attention.”
Despite her apology, some fans remained unimpressed, calling her statement “damage control” and questioning why she didn’t realize the issue before speaking.
Others felt that while her comment was ignorant, it wasn’t intentionally malicious.
Regardless, the viral moment has left many questioning the qualifications of social media influencers taking on major hosting roles at Hollywood events.
Summer House airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
