Dorit Kemsley Slams PK’s SHADY Sober Coach For Playing A Role In Their Divorce
Dorit Kemsley has opened up about the challenging moments surrounding her separation from husband Paul “PK” Kemsley, revealing details about how PK’s sponsor played a role in the decision to take time apart.
The 48-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star spoke candidly about feeling blindsided by the involvement of her husband’s sobriety sponsor and the impact it had on their relationship, including the effect it had on their children, Jagger, 10, and Phoenix, 8.
Sponsor’s Role in the Separation
In a conversation during the RHOBH: After Show, Dorit discussed how PK’s sponsor suggested that the couple take some time apart. She expressed surprise at how the decision unfolded, admitting that she felt excluded from the conversation.
“I felt totally blindsided,” Dorit shared, explaining that PK’s sponsor had been the one to bring up the separation. “Well, [PK’s sponsor] sort of said it like, ‘I think the best thing for you guys is to take some time apart.’”
Dorit’s co-star, Bozoma Saint John, questioned the sponsor’s involvement, stating that the sponsor’s role should be focused on PK’s sobriety, not their marriage.
“Why did his sponsor need to say it?” Bozoma asked. “With all due respect, the sponsor is supposed to advise him on his sobriety, okay? Now, you enter our sacred marriage? And you want to tell me what we should do? Oh, absolutely not.”
Dorit agreed, explaining that the lines between PK’s sponsor and friend were blurred, which contributed to the sponsor’s involvement in their marriage decisions.
Blurring the Lines: Friend and Sponsor
According to Dorit, PK’s relationship with his sponsor was particularly close as PK navigated the early stages of his sobriety. The support from his sponsor had been crucial for PK’s recovery, but it eventually led to complications in their marriage.
“It was the new stages of his sobriety, so [PK] was working with his sponsor every day, and I was really, really grateful because he really helped PK,” Dorit explained.
However, the close relationship between PK and his sponsor made it difficult for Dorit to accept the level of influence the sponsor had over their marriage decisions. Bozoma, still troubled by the situation, expressed concern over the sponsor’s interference. Dorit agreed with her co-star, noting that it wasn’t the first time the topic of separation had come up in their relationship.
Repetition of Separation Talk
Dorit went on to describe how the idea of separation had been discussed multiple times before, losing its significance due to the frequency with which it was brought up.
“It’s the 700th time … it was thrown around so easily and so quickly that it lost its strength,” she said, suggesting that the constant discussion of separation made it harder to take seriously when the decision was finally made.
The decision to separate, Dorit admitted, was not only emotionally difficult but also had to be carefully considered due to their children.
Considering the Kids: A “Huge Decision”
As a mother, Dorit expressed how the impact on their children weighed heavily on her. The decision to separate was a “huge decision” for both her and PK, and she expressed how much it would have meant to have been included in the process.
“It would’ve been nice to have been included in the decision,” Dorit stated, emphasizing her desire to be more involved in such a significant life change.
PK Changes Sponsors After Overstep
As for where things stand now with PK’s sponsor, Dorit confirmed that the sponsor is no longer a part of their discussions about marriage or parenting. After the sponsor’s interference in their relationship, PK decided to change sponsors while maintaining a friendship with the individual.
“[PK] was unaware that he had gotten involved and was very upset about it, so he decided to change sponsors. Kept him as a friend, but changed sponsors,” Dorit explained.
While Dorit and PK’s separation continues to be a difficult chapter, it seems that they are both moving forward with a focus on their family and ensuring that outside influences do not dictate the course of their relationship.
