‘Sister Wives’ Kody Brown Says He’ll Always Choose Robyn Over His Children

Sister Wives star Kody Brown made it clear that his loyalty lies with wife Robyn Brown, stating he’ll always prioritize her over mending relationships with his estranged children.

On the January 12 episode of Sister Wives, Kody Brown addressed the growing rift between himself and many of his 18 children, sharing that while his love for his kids is unwavering, he refuses to abandon his relationship with fourth wife Robyn Brown to mend family ties.

“My children will always be my children, and the door will always be open to them,” Kody said. “They’ve got to come through that door. And should they take those first steps, I’m going to be holding a hand out for that, but I’m going to be holding this hand that’s next to me, and I won’t let go of that hand.”

Kody Brown made it clear that his commitment to Robyn, whom he married in 2010 and is now his sole remaining wife, is non-negotiable. “I will not cut off Robyn to have a relationship with my children,” he stressed.

Janelle Weighs in on Kody’s Family Rift

Kody’s second wife, Janelle Brown, offered insight into the fractured family dynamic during the December 1 episode. Addressing her decision to leave Kody off the guest list for their daughter Savanah’s high school graduation party, Janelle dismissed the idea that Robyn’s absence would make Kody more welcome.

Kody has this idea that somehow if he leaves Robyn home, he’s going to be able to come to these family gatherings,” Janelle explained. “And that’s so far from the truth.”

She added that Kody is estranged from the vast majority of their children. “Kody is alienated from 90 to 95 percent of his children. He is not really wanted at events. He’s not coming regardless of who he brings or doesn’t bring with him.”

Kody, however, believes Robyn is the main source of tension. “I’ve got this whole other side of the family that have decided that they’re still a family and we’re out,” he said. “Now, they’ll let me in that club as long as I leave Robyn behind. I can’t do that.”

Kody Reflects on His Life with Robyn

While the strain with his other children remains unresolved, Kody spoke about the dynamic within his household with Robyn and their five children: Dayton, 24, Aurora, 22, Breanna, 20, Solomon, 13, and Ariella, 9.

“It’s a real different world, the world that I have with Robyn and our children,” Kody admitted. “It’s kind, it’s pleasant, it’s beautiful. It’s small.”

However, he acknowledged that the smaller family dynamic has been an adjustment for him. “I think I need a lot of attention,” Kody said. “It’s been different to be in a place where I don’t get as much attention.”

Christine and Janelle Hope for Reconciliation

Both Christine and Janelle Brown expressed a desire for Kody to rebuild his relationships with their children. Christine, who shares six children with Kody, said she hopes her kids can mend their bond with their father.

“It’s devastating to have your kids have daddy issues,” Christine shared in an interview. “I would love it if they had a good relationship with him.”

She added, “I just tell them, ‘You’ve got to accept him where he’s at, and be open. Just be open when he calls, answer the phone.’”

Janelle echoed those sentiments, but noted that Kody’s unwillingness to address issues with their kids ultimately pushed her to leave. “The big spark for me was when his relationship broke down with my children, and he didn’t seem like he would move heaven and earth to fix it,” Janelle revealed.

Meri Reflects on Miscommunication in Her Marriage

Meanwhile, Kody’s first wife, Meri Brown, spoke candidly about their troubled relationship, claiming Kody had long given her mixed messages.

“He led me to believe that he would work on things,” Meri shared. “This is what he’s done for many, many years.”

Kody, however, claimed their marriage was rocky from the start. “This marriage was on the rocks the entire marriage,” he said. “I should have gotten out of the relationship 25 years ago.”
