‘Summer House’ Alum Hannah Berner Defends Blake Lively Amid Backlash Over Controversial Joke!
Comedian and Summer House alum Hannah Berner is stirring up controversy after calling actress Blake Lively the C-word during Netflix’s Torching 2024: A Roast of The Year. With Blake embroiled in a high-profile lawsuit, Hannah’s remark quickly went viral, leaving many questioning her timing.
“The word ‘c-nt’ was trending this year. I don’t think Blake Lively was that bad,” Hannah joked during the roast, which premiered recently on Netflix.
The quip, which referenced headlines about Blake’s alleged rude behavior toward journalists, sparked backlash given the actress’s current legal battle.
In a lawsuit filed just three days after the Netflix special was filmed, Blake accused actor Justin Baldoni of orchestrating a smear campaign in retaliation for her raising concerns about on-set misconduct during their film It Ends With Us. The lawsuit alleges the campaign affected not only Blake but also her husband and children.
Justin Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has also announced that the actor’s upcoming lawsuit against Blake Lively aims to uncover the “truth” and expose those “who believe themselves untouchable.”
The legal action follows Blake’s claims of sexual harassment on the set of It Ends with Us and accusations that Justin orchestrated a retaliatory smear campaign.
Bryan alleges the lawsuit will disprove Blake’s accusations, including purported text messages used in her complaint, and will expose what he describes as a “false and destructive narrative” fueled by unreliable media sources.
As the clip of Hannah’s roast gained traction over the weekend, the comedian took to Instagram Stories to address the uproar. While she didn’t apologize, Hannah provided some context for her joke.
“My joke in the Netflix roast was filmed before news of the [lawsuit]. To be 100 percent clear, I support Blake xoxo,” she wrote.
The special, filmed on December 17, aired just days after Blake’s legal situation became public on December 20, creating a whirlwind of reactions. While some defended Hannah’s edgy humor as a typical part of roasts, others criticized her for making light of a sensitive moment for Blake.
Despite the backlash, Hannah seems unfazed. Known for her sharp and provocative humor, she’s no stranger to pushing boundaries.
For her, this incident seems to be another notch in the belt of a comedian unafraid to ruffle feathers.
Torching 2024: A Roast of The Year is now streaming on Netflix.
