‘RHONY’ Star Rebecca Minkoff Addresses Pregnancy Prank, Calls It a ‘Big Mistake’
Rebecca Minkoff is addressing the fallout from her controversial pregnancy prank on The Real Housewives of New York City. Speaking on the Virtual Reali-Tea podcast, the fashion designer admitted her plan to uncover a “rumor starter” among the cast was a misstep, especially given her co-stars’ struggles with fertility.
“In hindsight, [it was] terrible subject matter. I own it,” Rebecca said. “I had no idea Jessel, Ubah, or Brynn were going through what they were going through. Any woman going through infertility—bad idea. I struggled with it myself.”
Rebecca explained the prank was intended to expose the cast’s “liar” but acknowledged, “The goal didn’t justify the subject matter.”
During the interview, Racquel Chevremont pressed Rebecca about whether the backlash stemmed from the prank’s content or its staged nature.
“Is that what everyone was upset about, was the actual subject matter? Or just the fact that it was, like, a produced prank?” Racquel asked. “Both,” Rebecca admitted, taking accountability for the controversial moment.
Rebecca also addressed Erin Lichy’s comments from Bravo Fan Fest, where Erin shaded the tote bags Rebecca gifted the cast, calling them “not my style.” Rebecca didn’t hold back in her response.
“You know what, she’s not in fashion, so I have very low expectations [about Erin’s style],” Rebecca said, throwing in a jab at Erin’s past handbag line.
“I’m waiting for the bag … Is her company still around? I don’t know.”
Jessel Taank, who joined Rebecca for the interview, praised her candidness, saying, “I like this new Rebecca.” Racquel chimed in, adding, “We need more of this!” Rebecca closed the discussion on a lighthearted note, joking, “Where was she during filming?”
