Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright’s $2.2M Mortgage Drama Tied to $1M Tax Lien!
Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright are making headlines again, this time for financial drama tied to their Valley Village home and their ongoing divorce. The couple, who share a young son, Cruz, are navigating life apart after years of marriage and mounting financial troubles.
In 2019, Jax and Brittany purchased their Valley Village home for $1.91 million, securing a $1.43 million mortgage with a maturity date of June 2049. However, by July 2022, the financial picture turned grim when a Notice of Federal Tax Lien was filed against the couple for $1,058,345.58 in unpaid taxes, dating back eight years.
According to The U.S. Sun, the unpaid tax bill included amounts owed for multiple years: $23,008.45 for 2014, $118,169.57 for 2016, $72,110.16 for 2017, $198,190.36 for 2018, and a staggering $646,867.04 for 2019.
To address the tax debt, the couple secured a second mortgage for $2.2 million in 2022, extending the loan’s maturity date to 2062. An expert estimated the monthly payments for the mortgage, including interest and taxes, could reach $10,000.
Amid their separation, Brittany has reportedly taken on the responsibility of paying the mortgage herself, while Jax handles rent for his nearby apartment. A representative for the couple declined to comment on the financial arrangement.
Jax, who previously admitted to struggling with unpaid back taxes, acknowledged Brittany’s financial contributions. “I couldn’t pay the mortgage … [for] two places … I can’t afford a mortgage and an apartment,” Jax said during an interview earlier this year.
Despite their past declarations of never believing in divorce, Brittany filed for separation in August 2024. The couple had been living apart since February, when Brittany and Cruz moved out of the shared home.
While Jax spent time at a mental health facility over the summer, Brittany and Cruz returned to the family home. However, the strain in their marriage ultimately led Brittany to prioritize her well-being and file for divorce.
Sources suggest that Jax’s financial troubles and mental health challenges contributed to the breakdown of their relationship. “Everyone’s like, ‘Well, how come you didn’t leave?’” Jax explained during a candid conversation. “I’m like, well, yeah, I pay the mortgage on my home now.”
