In the Hulu documentary The Honorable Shyne, Gene Deal recounted the eerie events that allegedly took place the morning the jury was set to deliver its verdict. Combs, who faced up to 15 years in prison for weapons possession and attempted bribery, reportedly met an unidentified man in Central Park to perform the ritual.
“When [Combs] got close to the guy, he just dropped down to his knees,” Gene Deal explained. “Next thing I see, is this smoke just going back and forth around [Combs]. I guess it was sage or something like that.”
Gene Deal claimed the unidentified man instructed Combs to grab a white bird from a cage and throw it into the air.
“[Combs] took this white bird and threw it up in the air. The bird just fell to the ground, boom, like it was a brick. I was like, ‘Oh, s—!’ … The bird died, man … the bird didn’t even move,” Gene Deal recounted. “[Combs] just walked away from him real quick.”
While the ritual’s purpose remains unclear, the rapper was ultimately acquitted of all charges. However, his then-protégé, 21-year-old rapper Shyne, wasn’t so fortunate.
Shyne’s Conviction and Fallout
Shyne, whose real name is Jamal Barrow, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the Club New York shooting, which left three people injured, including a woman shot in the face. After serving his sentence, Shyne was deported to his home country of Belize.

“Because of Mayor Adams and his relationship with Diddy, it brought on the Southern District of New York to start investigating Diddy on civil lawsuits put against him,” Gene Deal suggested.
