Whoopi Goldberg EXPOSED For Lying On Bakery – Claims They Refused Her Order Over Politics!
Whoopi Goldberg is under fire after claiming on air that a Staten Island bakery refused to fulfill her birthday dessert order due to her political beliefs.
Now, New York City politicians, including Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, are calling for the The View co-host to apologize for what they describe as baseless and damaging accusations against the beloved local business, Holtermann’s Bakery.
Bakery Defends Its Reputation
At a press conference held outside the 145-year-old bakery on Friday, Fossella accused Goldberg of spreading misinformation.
“The actor and comedian has besmirched and defamed this bakery by making stuff up to suit their needs,” Fossella said. “Not everybody wakes up every day thinking about politics. A good business person doesn’t care about anyone’s politics.”
Fossella explained that the bakery’s refusal to fulfill Goldberg’s order stemmed from a malfunctioning boiler, which left the business unable to commit to large orders.
“Just say you’re sorry so we can put this behind us,” he urged, though he refrained from mentioning Goldberg by name.
Holtermann’s Bakery owner Jill Holtermann spoke briefly, sharing her gratitude for the outpouring of support her business has received since Goldberg’s remarks.
“I know how hard my family has worked to keep this business alive,” Holtermann said. “I wish my father was here today to see this.”
Holtermann stood firm, maintaining that the issue was logistical, not political, and attributed the misunderstanding to the timing of the equipment failure.
Goldberg Doubles Down on Air and Instagram
The controversy began Wednesday during The View, where Goldberg celebrated her 69th birthday by sharing Charlotte Russe desserts — small sponge cakes topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Goldberg claimed the process of obtaining the treats was complicated.
“The place that made these refused to make them for me,” Goldberg said on air, sparking gasps from the audience. She added, “They said that their ovens had gone down, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them.”
Goldberg then speculated that the refusal could have been politically motivated.
“It’s not because I’m a woman, but perhaps they did not like my politics,” she said.
Despite her claims, Goldberg insisted she wasn’t letting the incident ruin her celebration, saying, “Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you, everyone, for celebrating my birthday today.”
On Thursday, Goldberg took to Instagram to reiterate her point, claiming the bakery’s actions seemed suspicious.
“It does seem a little odd that when we called a few weeks before my birthday, we were told they couldn’t process the order because of an equipment failure,” she said. “But somehow they were able to accept an order of a different 48 of the same dessert when somebody else called without using my name.”
Goldberg clarified that the incident didn’t overshadow her birthday.
“It’s all okay, y’all, because I enjoyed my delicious dessert and I had a happy, sweet birthday,” she said in the video. “Nothing better than that.”

Local Leaders Defend the Bakery
Holtermann’s Bakery, a Staten Island institution, has since seen a surge in orders and community support following the public dispute. While Goldberg’s comments have brought unwanted attention to the business, Fossella emphasized the bakery’s long-standing reputation for fairness and quality.
“This is a good, hardworking family business, and they don’t deserve this,” he said.
Holtermann echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in her family’s legacy.
A History of Outspoken Commentary
Known for her outspoken liberal views, Goldberg has frequently courted controversy, including her refusal to say former President Donald Trump’s name on The View. However, this latest spat has drawn criticism for potentially politicizing an apolitical issue, with many calling on Goldberg to issue an apology to the bakery.
