Kyle Richards DROPS BOMBSHELL on Daughters, Reveals She’s Gay: ‘I Had to Be Honest!’
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards dropped a recently opened up about a major personal revelation — her evolving sexuality — and the challenging conversation she had with her four daughters. Despite her initial anxiety, the 55-year-old Bravo star found herself met with understanding and support from her daughters, marking a poignant moment of connection in her journey.
In a candid chat on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast, Kyle described the moment she sat down with her daughters, Farrah, 36, Alexia, 28, Sophia, 24, and Portia, 16, to discuss her recent self-discovery.
A Heart-to-Heart Moment with Her Daughters
Kyle shared that her decision to address her evolving feelings with her daughters was both “terrifying” and deeply necessary. “It was the most difficult conversation I’ve ever had with my children and I was terrified to have that conversation,” she revealed, adding, “I just wanted to be as honest as I possibly could.” As rumors circulated about her relationship with musician Morgan Wade, Kyle felt it was important to address her feelings with her family before they heard about it elsewhere.
“There were stories out there about me and … this did make me wonder, you know, and question myself,” she explained. The experience led her to confront questions she had never considered before, and she wanted her daughters to understand her process directly from her.
“I really never thought like this before. This is not the way I was raised. That’s not the way my mind even operated,” Kyle noted, reflecting on the shift in her perspective.
A Family That Supports and Embraces
Kyle made it clear to her daughters, especially her eldest, Farrah, whom she shares with her first husband Guraish Aldjufrie, and her three younger daughters, whom she shares with her estranged husband Mauricio Umansky, that they should never feel shame when discussing sensitive matters.
“I like to lead by example,” Kyle shared. “If this is what I’m going through and feeling, I want them to always feel comfortable enough to share with me the hardest conversations and know that they’ll be accepted no matter what.”
Reflecting on her daughters’ reactions, Kyle couldn’t help but feel proud. “Having that conversation, their reaction and response to me, I thought, ‘Wow, I mean, I’m just so impressed by these four women in front of me,’” she said. “Maybe, just maybe, I did do a good job — because that was my most proud moment as a mom, just seeing how they all reacted.”
Finding Humor in a Hard Conversation
After sharing her feelings, Kyle was delighted to find that her daughters were comfortable enough to inject a bit of humor into the situation. “For me, to have their support—regardless of what happens in my life — means the world to me,” she said with a laugh. “After we got past that difficult part of the conversation, the jokes that have ensued!”
She acknowledged that her daughters have even teased her about it, which she appreciates. “I have been teased by some of them, too, which is fine. But it’s been great and it’s been actually amazing for our relationship, too,” she shared, reflecting on how the openness has brought her closer to them.
Setting Boundaries and Respecting Privacy
Kyle also touched on her relationship with country singer Morgan Wade, a subject that has fueled much of the public speculation. Kyle admitted that she’s taken a step back from spending as much time with Wade, acknowledging that the intense media scrutiny had made things challenging.
“I think she just didn’t want any part of anything to do with my role [on] reality television and all that came with it,” Richards explained. “The paparazzi and all that was very overwhelming. So I understood that and respected that,” she added, noting that Wade’s boundaries are valid. “I am an open book, but I cannot speak to other people’s lives or experiences when they have not signed up to do this and don’t want to be a part of this. I think anybody would be overwhelmed in that situation.”
As Kyle moves forward in her personal journey, she’s prioritizing honesty and self-acceptance, as well as the newfound closeness she shares with her daughters. Her open dialogue with them stands as a testament to their strong family bond — a support system that means the world to her.
Season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills premieres Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo and will begin streaming on Peacock the following day.
