Monica Garcia Ordered To Pay Heather Gay’s Company $35K After Skipping Out on $2,500 Lip Injection Bill
Monica Garcia, formerly of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, has been ordered to pay $35,000 to Beauty Lab and Laser, the medical spa founded by her former co-star Heather Gay, after a prolonged legal battle. Court documents reveal that a Utah judge finalized the judgment in favor of Beauty Lab on November 4, marking the end of the year-long lawsuit.
Monica Garcia Owes $35K for Unpaid Services and Legal Fees
According to court documents obtained by The U.S. Sun, the judgment orders Monica to pay Beauty Lab $35,853.60. This amount includes the initial unpaid balance, as well as accrued interest, late fees, and significant attorney’s fees. The judgment stems from a $2,000 bill for cosmetic injections provided by Beauty Lab back in 2019.
The breakdown of the final amount is as follows:
- Principal: $2,000, which is the original amount the company claimed in its August 2023 lawsuit.
- Pre-judgment interest: At a rate of 18 percent per year from February 2020 to October 2024, totaling $1,683.62.
- Late fees: $15 for delayed payment.
- Legal costs and attorney’s fees: A staggering $31,550, on top of $604.98 in other associated fees.
The judgment further allows Beauty Lab to pursue post-judgment interest at an 18 percent rate annually until Monica settles the full amount. Additionally, Beauty Lab is entitled to recoup any future legal costs incurred in enforcing this judgment.
Monica’s Legal Team Pushes Back on Attorney’s Fees
Monica’s attorney argued against the hefty attorney’s fees requested by Beauty Lab, noting that they are “greatly excessive in view of the amount in dispute.” The attorney highlighted that the original complaint was only for $2,000—just a fraction of the $15,000 small claims limit in Utah.
Despite this argument, the judge denied the request to reduce the fees. The Initial Dispute: Monica Claims ‘Botched’ Cosmetic Procedure
The lawsuit originally made headlines when Beauty Lab filed a complaint in November 2023, accusing Monica of failing to pay for lip injection services dating back to December 2019. According to Beauty Lab, Monica signed a contract to pay $2,449 for cosmetic services but only paid an initial $449, covering a setup fee and a partial down payment. She was supposed to pay $200 monthly but allegedly defaulted after the first payment.
Beauty Lab’s complaint asserted that Monica’s missed payments had caused the business to “suffer significant losses and damages.” The company sought to recover the unpaid balance along with attorney’s fees and additional court remedies.
In response, Monica filed a counterclaim in September 2023, alleging that Beauty Lab’s services were “defective” and that she had received “negligently given injections.” She further claimed that the injections failed to deliver the desired result, forcing her to seek correction from another provider. According to her counterclaim, Beauty Lab offered to rectify the situation, but Monica ultimately declined.
Monica’s counterclaim was dismissed in January 2024 due to it being time-barred by the statute of limitations and her failure to obtain a compliance certificate from Utah’s Division of Professional Licensing.
Fallout for Monica Garcia on and off RHOSLC
Monica’s legal troubles have coincided with her rollercoaster journey on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. After joining the cast in Season 4, which premiered in September 2023, Monica quickly became a polarizing figure. Initially welcomed by the cast, she was later cast as the season’s “villain” after her secret Instagram account, Reality Von Tease, was exposed.
As a result of the fallout, tensions came to a head during a dramatic cast trip to Bermuda, where Monica’s co-stars called her out. By the season finale, Monica was no longer a part of the show, and she did not return for Season 5, which premiered in September 2024.
What’s Next for Monica and Beauty Lab?
With an appeal now in the works, Monica Garcia’s legal saga may be far from over. As for Beauty Lab, Heather Gay’s successful lawsuit not only reinforces her business’s policies but also adds another layer of real-life drama to the Bravo series that has captivated fans.
Meanwhile, fans and legal spectators alike will be watching to see if Monica’s appeal yields any relief from the $35,000 judgment.
