After his September 16 arrest on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, Sean “Diddy” Combs filed an appeal on September 18 with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Prosecutors labeled him a serious flight risk and argued that no conditions would guarantee public safety.

Diddy’s Bond Denial and Prosecutor’s Concerns

Following Diddy’s arrest, prosecutors painted a grim picture of his alleged behavior, accusing him of abusing and coercing women for years to maintain his public image and protect his personal desires. In their argument, they stressed the danger he poses, stating, “There is no condition, or combination of conditions, that will reasonably assure the safety of others and the community.” Additionally, they expressed concerns that Diddy might obstruct justice if released on bond.

The government also pointed to Diddy’s financial resources and his potential to flee the country. “If released, he remains a serious risk of flight, despite the conditions offered by his counsel,” they argued.

Diddy’s Legal Team Offers $50 Million Bond Proposal

Diddy’s legal team attempted to address these concerns by offering $50 million in bond, along with stringent restrictions. The proposal included limiting his travel to specific states, including New York and Florida, and his commitment to wearing a GPS tracker. However, his initial bond request was denied, and a revised package also failed to sway the court.

In the second bond offer, Diddy’s legal team proposed additional conditions, such as drug testing and a rule that no female visitors, aside from family and the mothers of his children, would be allowed in his homes. His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, refuted the severity of the charges by downplaying the extent of the alleged trafficking. “There is one alleged sex trafficking victim in the Indictment. One. The government can say what it wants, but what is actually charged is one victim,” Agnifilo wrote.

Allegations of a Complex Relationship

Marc Agnifilo further detailed that the sole accuser had been in a long-term romantic relationship with Diddy. “This one person was an adult woman who lived alone, who never lived with Sean Combs,” he said, while also noting that their relationship ended amicably. The attorney suggested the indictment stemmed from personal grievances, highlighting that the woman had attended memorial services for Diddy’s late ex, Kim Porter, after their breakup.

Diddy’s Lawyer Responds to Prosecution

After Diddy’s second proposal was also shut down, Agnifilo expressed disappointment, stating that the case is an unjust prosecution.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist,” he said in a public statement. He added, “He is an imperfect person but is not criminal. To his credit, Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York in anticipation of these charges.”

Agnifilo urged the public to hold judgment until all the facts are revealed, asserting that Diddy is innocent and ready to clear his name. With his bond request denied and the case set for trial, Diddy remains behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.
