Real Housewives of Orange County star Katie Ginella is facing new scrutiny as court documents revealing her 2013 bankruptcy have been leaked, exposing her past financial struggles.

Real Housewives of Orange County fans met Katie Ginella during season 18, and she’s already stirring the pot with her share of drama. However, her future on the show is in question as skeletons from her past continue to surface. The latest revelation? Her 2013 bankruptcy filing, which paints a picture of financial struggles she faced during her first marriage.

Katie’s financial troubles were brought to light when she filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy alongside her then-husband, Andrew Sundseth. According to InTouch Weekly, the couple, who lived in Duluth, Georgia, at the time, were “drowning in debt.” They reported $108,000 in assets and a staggering $480,000 in liabilities. At the time, Katie, who went by Sundseth, listed herself as a model and reported earning just $3,600 in the first six months of 2013 – averaging a mere $600 per month. The previous year, she earned a total of $20,814.

Andrew was a project manager, making around $5,250 before taxes, leaving the couple with a combined post-tax income of $4,861. Their assets included two bank accounts holding $1,680, $2,500 worth of household items, $1,000 in clothing, $500 in jewelry, and a 401k valued at $4,250. They also owned two vehicles: a 2000 Honda Odyssey valued at $2,000 and a 2006 Scion XB worth about $7,000 – although they were “upside down” in that loan, owing $9,000 for the Scion.

The couple’s debt was overwhelming. They owed $153,000 on their home, $4,000 to the IRS, an unknown amount in Georgia state taxes, and over $200,000 in student loans. On top of that, they had $50,000 in credit card debt. They were paying $500 monthly toward the student loans and $1,000 for food to support their family of five, including their three children.

Their bankruptcy filing was approved in 2013, but their marriage didn’t survive. The couple divorced three years later, with Andrew gaining primary custody of their children. Katie was ordered to pay child support but contested this in 2018, claiming Andrew was emotionally abusive to the kids. After the court revisited the case, Katie won custody, and she was no longer required to pay child support. Since then, Katie has remarried.

Katie’s financial past isn’t her only controversy. She has been accused of being a “Karen” for allegedly making false police reports and was recently sued for allegedly stealing a small business concept. With all this drama, it’s unclear whether Katie will return for another season of RHOC or if she even wants to, given the mounting headlines about her personal life. Fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for Katie Ginella.
