‘Sister Wives’ Christine Brown Sues Kody Brown for Child Support and Custody of Daughter Truely
Sister Wives star Christine Brown, is taking legal action against her ex-husband, Kody Brown, seeking child support and full custody of their 14-year-old daughter, Truely Brown.
Christine Brown Files Lawsuit Against Ex
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Christine filed the lawsuit on September 16, asking the court to legally establish Kody’s paternity of Truely, as he is currently not listed on her birth certificate.
In addition to the paternity request, Christine, 52, is also asking for a domestic relations injunction to prevent harassment or any attempts to cancel services, and to ensure that neither party can take Truely on non-routine travel without proper court orders or permission.
The injunction is designed to stop both Christine and Kody from engaging in any demeaning or disparaging behavior toward each other. This legal move comes nearly two years after Christine’s split from Kody in November 2021.
Kody’s Absence in Truely’s Life
After their separation, Christine relocated from Flagstaff, Arizona, to Utah with Truely. Despite the move, Kody’s involvement in his daughter’s life became minimal. Sources previously told In Touch in 2022 that Kody had little to no presence in Truely’s life, blaming his paranoia about COVID-19 and other issues for his distance. “He’s still paranoid about COVID and everything else,” an insider revealed, suggesting that Christine had to accommodate Kody’s concerns, often leaving him out of Truely’s life altogether.
The source went on to explain that Kody wasn’t making an effort to visit Truely. “If Christine is not choosing to do the transporting and making it happen — nor would she put Truely through any of this stress — then Kody won’t have a relationship with Truely. He would have to leave his nest to see his daughter,” they added.
Why Christine Moved
In an October 2023 episode of Sister Wives, Christine explained, “When I lived in Flagstaff, I firmly believed that moving to Utah was the best choice for me and for Truely. I knew that I was taking Truely away from her dad. I felt like the best way to preserve Truely’s relationship with Kody was to move her away from him.”
She described the move as a way to “freeze,” their relationship in a healthy place. Christine, who also shares five other children with Kody — Mykelti, Aspyn, Gwendlyn, Ysabel, and Paedon —stated in a confessional:
“I took their relationship while it was still good and I picked it up and I moved it. And then whenever we come back into town, I just pick it up again and I move it back.”
Kody’s Reaction to Christine’s Move
Kody, 55, didn’t share Christine’s optimistic view of her decision. During his own confessional on the show, he expressed frustration and disbelief over Christine’s reasoning. “For Christine to think that she’s saving my relationship with Truely by taking her away from me and just ‘preserving’ it — that’s such B.S. rationalization,” Kody said, calling the situation “ridiculous.”
Kody has been known to have strained relationships with most of his children after his separations from Christine, Janelle Brown, and Meri Brown. He is currently still married to his “favorite” wife, Robyn Brown, with whom he has remained since the breakdown of his other marriages.
Christine’s New Chapter
Since splitting from Kody, Christine has moved on in her personal life. She began dating David Woolley, and the couple’s relationship quickly became serious. In February 2023, Christine made their romance Instagram official, and just two months later, David popped the question. The pair exchanged vows in October 2023, with their wedding celebrations featured on Sister Wives.
As Christine navigates her new life with David and her ongoing legal battle with Kody, it’s clear that this chapter of the Brown family drama is far from over. Fans will undoubtedly be tuning in to see how it all unfolds on future episodes of Sister Wives.
