Gia Giudice Fires Back at Haters for Calling Her a ‘Kid’

Gia Giudice is addressing critics who continue to refer to her as a “kid,” especially after recent comments made by her aunt, Melissa Gorga, on The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Melissa, 45, had labeled Gia as a “child” and found it “so weird” that the 23-year-old had commented on the ongoing drama on the show. Now, Gia is speaking out, making it clear that she sees herself as far from being a child.

During a September 4 episode of Turning the Tables, the podcast hosted by Gia’s mother, Teresa Giudice, the pair discussed the ongoing narrative surrounding Gia’s involvement in the RHONJ drama. Teresa didn’t hold back in supporting her daughter’s maturity, stating, “With having my back, it’s so crazy like how people say on the show that I’m on, they reference you as a kid. You’re not a kid. You’re an adult. You’re 23 years old.”

Gia couldn’t agree more. “That’s not the case. Obviously, I’ve now graduated from college. I’m two years out of college. I’m working. I’m very much an adult,” she responded during the podcast episode.

For Gia, the constant references to her age seem rooted in something deeper. She believes those who continue to label her as a “kid” are acting out of insecurity.

“They’re jealous because they don’t have somebody like me on their side,” Gia speculated, adding, “[And] they’re probably jealous of our relationship and how I have your back. And how I do shut people down because I’m very quick and smart with my words. And I know what to say in situations.”

Reflecting on her involvement in RHONJ, Gia made it clear that her participation hasn’t been entirely voluntary. She feels like she’s been dragged into the show’s drama by the cast. “A lot of these women have involved me, have involved my name in things,” Gia explained.

She elaborated that while she could stay silent, she chooses to speak up to clarify situations. “Whatever anybody’s opinion is, I’ve never been disrespectful, and I’ve always voiced my opinion, and I’ve always had my mother’s back… If anybody sees that as wrong… that’s very odd to me.”

For Gia, standing up for her mom is something that she believes any family member would do. “Anybody would want our situation. I’m sure every mother wants their kid to back them up and vice versa,” she remarked. Her mother, Teresa, echoed this sentiment, pointing out a double standard that exists in the RHONJ world. Teresa referenced Caroline Manzo, 63, and her children, Albie Manzo, 38, Lauren Manzo, 36, and Chris Manzo, 35.

“When Caroline Manzo was on the show and Lauren was backing her up, everyone was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s so great, Lauren, that you’re backing up your mother,’” Teresa recalled.

Gia was quick to draw a comparison between her own situation and the Manzo family, saying, “And the Manzos are very involved. They were in their 20s. They were in the same situation as I was. The Manzos have even come out and said, ‘I see nothing wrong with Gia defending her mother,’ because they did the same thing for their mother.”

Gia didn’t hold back on how her vocal defense has been perceived differently. “They all probably want their kids to do what I’m doing. They just get weird because I’m very good with my words and I don’t play bullsh*t,” she said. Gia went on to explain that while her mother tends to take time to reflect before responding, she’s much quicker to react.

Teresa takes a little bit to think about [things] and fires off later, she fires right on the spot,” Gia concluded.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey continues to remain on pause ahead of its 15th season.
