Phaedra Parks Excited About ‘RHOA’ Return After Kandi Burruss Was Kicked to the Curb!
Phaedra Parks is eagerly anticipating her return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta following Kandi Burruss’ departure from the series, marking a dramatic shift in the show’s dynamic.
Kandi Burruss was let go from The Real Housewives of Atlanta after not being offered a new contract for the upcoming Season 16, a move that paved the way for Phaedra Parks’ return to the show. The decision to exclude Kandi was part of a broader cast shakeup intended to reinvigorate the series. With Phaedra rejoining the show, producers aimed to bring back a familiar and dynamic presence to the RHOA lineup, as her previous involvement had been a key factor in the show’s success.
Phaedra Parks is thrilled to be rejoining the cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta for its upcoming sixteenth season, calling the experience a “real welcome home feeling.” The 50-year-old reality star shared the news of her return in July, much to the delight of fans who have long hoped for her comeback to the Bravo hit that cemented her status as a household name.
In a recent conversation with PEOPLE about her new IT Cosmetics “Keep It Real” campaign, Phaedra opened up about her return.
“They called and I answered,” she said, reflecting on the opportunity to return to the show. “We were the No. 1 franchise of Housewives and I was a part of making that franchise a successful franchise. And I would love to bring the franchise come back to its heyday.”
Excitement also surrounds Phaedra’s reunion with former friend Porsha Williams, who is also returning to RHOA this season after a brief hiatus. “Of course, I love Porsha,” Phaedra said. “We are the original frick and frack.” The two were recently seen together at a black-tie gala for the Charles Oakley Foundation on August 16, an event rumored to be part of the new season’s filming. The gala saw the attendance of season 16 co-stars including: Angela Oakley, Brittany Eady, Shamea Morton Mwangi, Kelli Ferrell, Drew Sidora, and Cynthia Bailey.
The extent of Phaedra’s role in the new season remains uncertain, as her casting was confirmed later in the filming process, which concluded on August 19. Her return comes on the heels of Kenya Moore’s departure from the series following a dispute with Eady, which triggered an internal investigation.
“It’s going to be an amazing season,” Phaedra teased. “I mean, it will definitely be reminiscent to the Housewives you love originally.” Phaedra first joined RHOA in season 3, where she was known for her vibrant personality and significant life events, including the births of her two sons, Ayden, 14, and Dylan, 11, with ex-husband, Apollo Nida.
Phaedra exited RHOA amid controversy in season 9, following a dramatic fallout with Kandi Burruss. The conflict escalated when Phaedra admitted to spreading unverified rumors about Kandi and her husband, Todd Tucker, which led to their estrangement.
Since her departure, Phaedra has made several television appearances, including on Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition and Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip Ex-Wives Club. Her success on these projects paved the way for her return to Bravo, where she also joined Married to Medicine as a cast member for both season 10 and the upcoming season 11.
Phaedra also showcased her versatility on season 2 of Peacock’s competition series, The Traitors, which is up for four 2024 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality Series for Alan Cumming.
The premiere date for The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16 has yet to be announced, but fans can catch up on previous seasons, which are available for streaming on Peacock.
