Dolores Catania Reveals Bravo Executives Doubt RHONJ’s Return as NBCUniversal Plans Major Shakeup

Dolores Catania recently shed light on the uncertain future of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and shared insights into the behind-the-scenes drama that never made it to air.

She also revealed that Bravo network executives were unhappy with some off-camera incidents, leading to tension among the cast.

In the most recent season of RHONJ, the cast was deeply divided, so much so that a traditional reunion was canceled. Despite the turmoil, Dolores managed to stay neutral, maintaining friendships with members of both factions. Now, with the show on hiatus, reports suggest a major cast shakeup could be in the works—if the show even returns at all.

NBC’s going to shake things up with us,” Dolores shared on the Trading Secrets podcast, referencing NBCUniversal, Bravo’s parent company. “There was some stuff off-camera they weren’t happy about, and it just got too ugly at the moment. And I think it got so hot it needs to cool down … I don’t know the fate of the show, but you never know from year to year whether you’re getting signed up again.”

While Dolores didn’t specify what incidents upset the network, it was recently revealed that Margaret Josephs filed a police report against Teresa Giudice’s husband, Luis Ruelas, for alleged harassment. Margaret claimed that Luis started a smear campaign against her Walmart brand deal and even contacted her son at his job, allegedly threatening him.

“Every year I tell myself I’m fired,” Dolores admitted. “So if I have a job … I’m excited.”

If the show doesn’t return, Dolores mentioned that she might consider returning to her previous job as a surgical assistant, but she acknowledged it was “hard” work. She also expressed interest in pursuing opportunities in the beauty industry, noting her current collaboration with New Beauty magazine.

Dolores also reflected on moments from previous seasons that never made it to air, including when she was awarded a key to the city of Paterson, New Jersey, which was filmed but ultimately cut from the show.

“They cut so much of my family out, and my background,” she shared. “They only started showing my work with the shelter after I was on for like five years … every time they called me for something [with] production, I’d be at the shelter.”

Dolores revealed that she had warned her castmates a year ago to “stop” the behavior that was pushing “the network to a breaking point.”

“I saw it coming,” she said, hinting that even production is uncertain about the show’s return. “They said, ‘Well, you know, talk to you next year.’ It didn’t work out good for [Real Housewives of New York]. They didn’t get called … Maybe from some divine intervention, something good will happen.”

Despite the uncertainty, Dolores remains hopeful, putting it “into the universe” that RHONJ will come back “stronger than ever.”
