On Tuesday, August 13, Michael Ilesanmi launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for his legal battle, setting an ambitious goal of $25,000. As of now, the campaign has successfully raised over $39,000.

In a heartfelt message on his GoFundMe page, Michael addressed his supporters: “Hi, I am Michael Ilesanmi from TLC’s TV show ‘90 Day Fiancé.’ I have been put in a situation where I unfortunately have to ask for help,” he wrote. “Due to the recent legal filings by Angela against me, I must seek legal advice. I have obtained an attorney but the fees are expensive. I have a legal battle to fight and that fight will be expensive. I am asking all my fans to help—whatever you can give I would deeply appreciate. I understand all of us are having hard times and I hate to ask others for money support but it seems like due to the legal actions brought against me I have to ask. Thank you all and God Bless.”

Michael’s plea for help comes in the wake of a lawsuit filed by Angela Deem, who has sought an annulment of their marriage. In her filing, Angela accuses Michael of “fraudulently inducing” her into marriage with the intent of obtaining legal permanent resident status in the United States. The lawsuit also alleges that Michael was involved in a broader scheme with other Nigerian men to deceive U.S. citizens into marriage for similar immigration benefits.

The tumultuous relationship between Michael and Angela has been well-documented on 90 Day Fiancé. Angela, who frequently visited Michael in Nigeria during their relationship, exerted significant control over him. At times, she restricted his ability to work and financially supported him to ensure he remained available to her. Throughout their time on the show, Angela’s behavior towards Michael included both physical and verbal abuse, which has garnered sympathy and support from many fans.

In his GoFundMe campaign, Michael elaborated on the situation: “I have been put in a situation where I unfortunately have to ask for help. Due to the recent legal filings by Angela against me, I must seek legal advice. I have obtained an attorney but the fees are expensive. I have a legal battle to fight and that fight will be expensive,” he explained. “I am asking all my fans to help—whatever you can give I would deeply appreciate. The public’s response has been overwhelmingly supportive, with many donors leaving messages of encouragement and backing for Michael. One supporter wrote, At the end of the tunnel of darkness you walked through for the last seven years shines the light that will set you free. EVIL WILL NOT TRIUMPH. God simply cannot allow that to happen. This is not only about helping you, Michael Ilesanmi. This is about standing united as decent human beings against darkness, against evil, against ignorance, against manipulation. This is about joining our voices together and making our message to those who tormented you loud and clear : ” This is unacceptable and we will not stand for it.”

Another donor expressed similar sentiments, saying, “I’m sorry for your suffering and wish you luck with your court battles ahead. You legally qualify for a green card as an abuse victim. Get an immigration attorney and file a I-360 (VAWA self-petitioning spouse of an abusive U.S. citizen) with USCIS as a domestic abuse victim. Your case shines a public light on abuse that men face every day at the hands of women. A man doing what Angela does to you would be behind bars already.”

Another Michael fan wrote, “You deserve every penny you get! I hope you are considering suing her for abuse, no one and I mean NO ONE deserves the treatment you received. You deserve to stay here.”

Someone else shared, “Michael- God will bless you and will lead the way. I am so glad you got out of that abusive relationship. So much humiliation towards you from Angela. Nobody deserves that. Best wishes for your future!”
