‘RHODubai’ Star Caroline Stanbury Finds It ‘Rubbish’ When People Lie About Their Plastic Surgery Procedures
Caroline Stanbury, star of The Real Housewives of Dubai, recently reflected on her decision to undergo a facelift and the motivation behind sharing her experience publicly.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Caroline revealed that her journey began when she started looking at before-and-after photos of women who had undergone the procedure.
“You get handed books [with pictures of] 80-year-old women that suddenly look 70 or 60. And that’s not me. I couldn’t relate to them,” Stanbury explained. She realized that the images didn’t resonate with her because they didn’t reflect her age or the subtle changes she was seeking. “I wanted to find someone else my age who had done it but she wasn’t looking dreadful. She just wanted to look better, right?”
Caroline decided to document her own facelift, which she underwent last November, to offer a more relatable perspective. She shared that she had been using filler and Botox since she was 26 but had become dissatisfied with the results over time.
“I had one crazy eyebrow. My lips had gone a bit weird. My face just [got] rounder and rounder and bigger and bigger, because I just kept pumping filler in my jawline.”
After dissolving her filler, Stanbury weighed the costs and benefits and concluded, “The cost of doing this every year, you know, is a facelift.” The decision was solidified when her friend, podcast host Catt Sadler, had a facelift and “looks unbelievable. She looks just refreshed.”
Inspired by Catt’s results, Caroline knew it was the right choice for her as well.
As for why she chose to share the experience with the world, Stanbury pointed to her role as a public figure and the importance of authenticity. “I have a podcast which is called Uncut and Uncensored. So, if I then censor my life, what’s the point?” she said. “Also, I’m on a reality TV show. This is my reality.”
Beyond her public persona, Caroline felt a responsibility to other women, especially those around her age. “I have a very young husband,” she said, referring to Sergio Carrallo, 29, “not that he wanted me to do it, but these are things that women go through.”
She wanted to be transparent about the realities of aging and cosmetic surgery, noting, “I don’t want women to see me and think at 48, I look like this and they look like s—t. It’s an unnatural thing.”
Stanbury underwent a deep plane facelift and had excess eyelid skin removed. However, she chose not to have her eyes lifted, which she says made a “massive difference” in maintaining a natural look. She continues to use Botox on her forehead but emphasized the importance of managing expectations around cosmetic procedures.
“People’s necks go. You can’t suddenly have this baby-smooth, soft skin and think that this is natural. You’re telling people that skin looks like this and theirs doesn’t. That something’s wrong with them, which doesn’t make any sense.”
Reflecting on her experience, Caroline criticized the unrealistic beauty standards often portrayed in the media. “It’s rubbish,” she said. “That’s not what skin looks like in your forties unless you’ve been yanked within an inch of your life by a very clever surgeon.”
Fans have praised Stanbury for her honesty and openness about the procedure, often asking her how she’s healing. “Everybody wants to know how the scars are,” she shared.
“The one behind your ear is the longest to heal, but [now] it’s just a little red light mark that can be covered with makeup,” she explained, adding, “the body heals in an incredible way.”
Caroline candid approach to her facelift has resonated with many, offering a refreshing take on the realities of cosmetic surgery and aging in the public eye.
