Kody is up against notable figures such as Johnny Bananas from House of Villain, Ed “Big Ed” Brown and Tim Malcolm from 90 Day Fiancé, Cameron Hardin from Big Brother, and Pauly D and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino from Jersey Shore. The Reality Royalty Award recognizes the most prominent stars in reality television each year, with fans having the power to vote for their favorites. Since its inception in 2013, the American Reality TV Awards (ARTA) has allowed the public to decide who takes home the coveted ARTA statue.
In addition to Kody’s nomination, his ex-wife, Christine Brown, has also been recognized. Christine is competing for the Reality Queen award, where she faces rivals including Tammy Slaton from 1000-Lb Sisters and Sutton Stracke from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Season 18 of Sister Wives showcased heightened drama within the Brown family. Kody, who was previously married to Christine, Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, and Robyn Brown, ended the season with only Robyn as his spouse after the dissolution of his three other marriages. The evolving family dynamics have been a central theme of the show, with Christine embarking on a new relationship with David Woolley.
Showrunner Chris Poole discussed the impact of Christine’s departure, stating:
“Christine leaving the family was a massive event that really shook up the entire family. But we’ve shot quite a bit of footage since then. It continues to be just as interesting and dramatic because, as much as Christine’s left, Kody is still the father of her children. They still have to interact and figure that out.”
Kody remains in a monogamous relationship with Robyn, whom he married in 2014. He has previously cited his inability to love another woman as deeply as he loves Robyn as a key factor in the breakdown of his other marriages. Despite this, Robyn has expressed uncertainty about her role in a monogamous relationship. In a December 2023 episode, she admitted, “I want to say yes, but I just don’t know how this works exactly,” adding that it feels “disrespectful” to be happy with Kody without the blessing of her former sister wives, Janelle, Meri, and Christine.
The dynamics between Kody and his former partners have been a point of contention, with Christine accusing Kody of favoritism toward Robyn. During a September 2022 episode, Christine remarked, “I think he has a favorite wife and that’s why all of this is like it is. And apparently, I’m not treating her well enough.”
The American Reality TV Awards are set to celebrate reality TV’s most influential figures, and Kody Brown’s nomination is a testament to his significant presence in the genre. For updates on the awards and the ongoing drama within the Brown family, stay tuned.
