Emily Simpson Shares Her First Reaction to Alexis Bellino Dating John Janssen: ‘I Thought It Was Odd’
RHOC star Emily Simpson recently shared her initial surprise over the new relationship between her longtime friend Alexis Bellino and John Janssen, the ex of fellow cast member Shannon Beador.
In an enlightening interview with Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast, Emily divulged the details of her unexpected discovery which occurred after a holiday party hosted by Kathy Hilton in November 2023.
The revelation came when Emily and Alexis, who re-joined RHOC as a “friend of” for Season 18, were returning to Orange County from Kathy’s event. “She told me that night in the car that she and John were a thing, like, they were in a relationship,” Simpson explained, expressing her initial confusion: “I was like, ‘Oh, OK. OK, alright.'”
Despite her surprise, Simpson stressed that she holds no reservations about the relationship.
“I mean, they’re adults, they live in Orange County, they like each other, they seem happy, that’s fine,” she stated. “I was like, ‘Ooh, this is interesting.’ But I didn’t think less of her or anything.”
Emily also touched on the complexity of the relationship dynamics within their social circle, especially considering Alexis was dating Shannon’s ex. “I just thought it was odd,” she admitted, quickly adding that Alexis did not breach any “girl code” with Shannon as they were not friends and had never filmed together.
The couple, who met by chance at a popular local spot called The Quiet Woman, became official in December 2023, further cementing their status by displaying affection publicly and sharing personal milestones on social media.
Bellino even posted about a promise ring and declarations of love she received from Janssen during the holidays.
On the other side of things, Beador, 60, has publicly shared her feelings of hurt and confusion over Janssen’s new relationship, particularly as it has unfolded in the backdrop of her own struggles, including a DUI incident and legal issues with John over a facelift payment.
As the drama unfolds, Emily believes Shannon is managing her challenges with grace. “I think Shannon’s really winning, and I think she deserves that,” she remarked.
Simpson praised Beador for maintaining her composure through the series of personal and public challenges: “She’s got a DUI, she has John’s new girlfriend, she’s getting sued,” she noted on the podcast, “and I think she just continues to look like the bigger person and the better party in all of this.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County continues to capture these intertwining personal stories, airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
