Joe Gorga Stands by His Decision to Burn Teresa Giudice’s Housewarming Card
During the tumultuous Season 14 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, the strained relationship between Teresa Giudice and her brother Joe Gorga has reached a boiling point, compounded by the cold war between Teresa and Joe’s wife, Melissa Gorga.
The tension was palpable when Teresa attempted to extend an olive branch by sending a housewarming gift, which Joe dismissively burned at his party.
This provocative gesture occurred in Episode 7, where Joe received a bottle of liquor and a card from Teresa. Despite the apparent gesture of goodwill, Joe immediately dismissed it as insufficient. “Definitely not an olive branch,” he remarked during the episode. “An olive branch would be a knock on my door when no one’s there, and come and see me!”
Teresa, not surprised by her brother’s reaction, shared her thoughts in the following episode: “My brother’s very petty,” revealing the depth of their ongoing feud.
The conflict was again highlighted when Melissa appeared on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” with Joe present in the audience. When Andy asked Joe if he regretted his action of not reading and burning the card, Joe’s response was straightforward: “I do not,” he said, confirming his stance on the matter.
In the same episode, Teresa revealed the contents of the now-infamous card, which was actually composed by her husband, Luis “Louie” Ruelas. “The only thing that was in the card was ‘Congratulations on your new home. Love, Louie and Teresa,'” she disclosed, indicating that the gesture was meant to be congenial rather than a reconciliation effort. “Like, it wasn’t an olive branch, it was a gesture.”
Teresa further distanced herself from the gesture, emphasizing that the initiative was Louie’s. “I’m not gonna take credit for that; I don’t wanna take the credit for that,” she admitted.
“That was all my husband. I really didn’t want to send it ’cause I’m not kissing anybody’s ass, I don’t want to make up with him,” she added, showing her reluctance. “[Louie] is like, ‘Babe, it’s a nice gesture,’ and I’m like, ‘OK, fine.'”
During her discussion with Andy, Melissa agreed with the superficial nature of the peace offering: “Fake peace, but peace,” she said, with Joe affirming her sentiment with a nod.
She also expressed a sense of relief and emancipation throughout the season, no longer feeling obligated to maintain a facade of familial harmony.
“I don’t feel the pressure anymore to accept things I didn’t feel were right, or to keep moving forward with something that was at a complete dead end,” Melissa explained. “Having zero guilt any longer and knowing I’ve done the right thing for as long as I could is definitely my rose,” she concluded, signaling a new chapter free from the burden of unresolved family conflicts.
