Carl Radke Denies Throwing Shade at Lindsay Hubbard with His New Bar Name
Carl Radke is addressing the controversy surrounding the name of his new non-alcoholic bar, Soft Bar + Cafe, after Summer House fans speculated that it was a dig at his ex-fiancée, Lindsay Hubbard.
In an exclusive statement to Page Six on Tuesday, the reality star explained that the name was inspired by his travels in Europe, where he encountered bars offering non-alcoholic drinks referred to as “soft cocktails” or “softs.”
“While ‘soft drinks’ is a term used in the US, it has a different connotation, typically representing soda,” Radke, 39, clarified. “I wanted to define a new — and much needed — category and space, having ‘soft drinks’ or ‘softs’ be seen as functional and high-quality non-alcoholic beverages for adults.”
Carl further elaborated, “I was sharing this thought during a conversation with my co-founder as we discussed raising the bar in the non-alcoholic space, ultimately leading us to the name ‘Soft Bar.’”
The Summer House star unveiled the name of his new bar on Instagram on Monday, which led some fans to accuse him of taking a jab at Lindsay, 37. The couple had split last year after Radke asked her to act “softer” toward him.
One fan reacted on X (formerly Twitter), “Asking Lindsay to be softer to him and opening up a bar named soft. This man is weird. When will you stop obsessing over Lindsay?” Another unimpressed user wrote, “Carl naming his non-alcoholic bar ‘Soft Bar’ is so gross and nasty, #SummerHouse.”
Fans on TikTok shared similar sentiments, with one commenting, “The bar is a good idea but he’s an a–hole for calling it Soft.” Another added, “Lindsay moved on a long time ago babes.”
The Bravolebrity is now expecting her first child with boyfriend Turner Kufe, had previously dismissed Carl’s idea of a sober bar in Season 8 of Summer House.
At the time, she told her then-fiancé, “Sorry, I’m gonna have to say no to that one. Working in the hospitality industry my entire life, representing every single lounge, bar, club, hotel, restaurant … I don’t want that for our future family.”
In June, Radke confirmed he was moving forward with his idea during the Summer House Season 8 reunion. “It feels like my calling,” he said. “It’s finally looking at me, and I want to go pursue that.”
According to its Instagram page, Soft Bar + Cafe is set to open in Brooklyn, NY, “soon.” Carl also shared with Page Six that they will be hosting mobile pop-up events in August and into the fall until the permanent location is ready.
