Vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance faced fierce criticism from The View co-hosts following his remarks about women made during a 2021 appearance on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News program.
J.D. Vance, who has faced significant backlash for his comments, sparked renewed outrage when these remarks resurfaced online. During the segment, Vance’s assertion that the country is run by “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives” became a focal point of discussion among the ladies of The View.

On The View, Whoopi Goldberg did not hold back in her condemnation of Vance’s statements. After airing a clip of Vance’s remarks, Goldberg addressed the issue head-on, questioning his understanding of issues related to parenting and women’s experiences.
“There are people that have chosen not to have children, for whatever reason. There are people who want to have children who cannot. How dare you! You never had a baby. Your wife had a baby, but you never had a baby, so you know nothing about this,” Goldberg said emphatically. “Women, you heard how he thinks of you. This is not good for you, JD.”
Goldberg’s critique was part of a broader discussion on whether Vance’s past comments might affect his viability as a vice presidential candidate for Trump. Vance, who has struggled with unpopularity as a candidate, has also been criticized for his views on divorce, particularly his stance that exceptions for rape or incest in abortion bans are “inconvenient.”
Joy Behar, another co-host, took the opportunity to mock Vance’s remarks, suggesting a broader pattern of insensitivity towards animals within the GOP. “What is the GOP’s problem with animals?” Behar asked, referencing Kristi Noem’s past incident involving the killing of her dog. Behar’s quip about Vance being “mean to the cats” highlighted the perceived absurdity of his comments.
Behar’s remarks were not the only ones challenging Vance’s candidacy. The discussion also touched on the growing concern that Trump might be reconsidering his choice of Vance. “He thinks by the fact that you have children, that’s how you look through the lens of politics,” Haines said. “I have children, and I can assure you that that’s not my first thought when I think about politics. My kids are gonna, obviously, be affected by that, but anybody with a heart will look at the moral clarity of the decisions we’re making here.”
