Ahead of the show’s season 18 premiere on Bravo, Beador shared with Us Weekly the steps she’s taking towards personal growth and how she’s learning from her past mistakes.

“I’ve done a lot and I still have more to do,” the 66-year-old reality TV star confided, revealing her commitment to therapy and psychiatric help.

Shannon explained that her decision to seek therapy over rehab was due to realizing she was using alcohol as a coping mechanism during a turbulent period in her personal life.

“I’m headed down a healthier path,” she shared, “and I’m trying to create any type of positive thing that I can out of a horrible situation.”

Reflecting on the darker moments that led to her arrest, Beador recalls the challenges she faced, including preparing for her youngest daughter Stella’s departure for college. Her journey to sobriety hasn’t been easy, but it’s one she is committed to. “I don’t want to take what happened to me lightly at all and say like, ‘Well, God had a plan,’” she said.

“Because I could have hurt someone.” She expressed profound gratitude that no one was injured during her DUI incident, acknowledging the potential consequences of her actions.

In a heartfelt admission, Shannon said, “I made a horrible choice very late in my life, and I considered myself a better example than that. So I’ve got to make changes, and it has forced me to look at my life.”

Now, she’s focused on a journey of self-discovery and personal improvement, emphasizing, “I don’t want to be in a relationship, which is crazy. Because that’s me. If I’m not in a relationship, that’s my purpose, and I have zero desire to — I want to have a relationship with myself.”

The reality star has faced her share of legal consequences following her arrest. In September 2023, Beador was arrested for a hit-and-run and DUI after driving erratically in Newport Beach, California. She clipped a house while trying to park her car, and when police arrived, she was reportedly outside with her dog Archie, initially trying to deflect responsibility.

However, she later faced her actions, telling Us, “I was going back to take accountability.”

Following her arrest, Shannon was sentenced to three years of probation, along with fines, a nine-month alcohol program, and 40 hours of community service. Accountability has been a major theme for her over the past year, especially as she faced the public at BravoCon shortly after her arrest.

“To me, that was so important because I wanted to take accountability and address, publicly, the horrible decision that I’d made and be completely transparent and open about it,” she explained.
