Andy Cohen Discusses Kathy Wakile’s Potential Return and Suggests Changes for ‘RHONJ’
Andy Cohen recently addressed rumors about Kathy Wakile’s potential return to The Real Housewives of New Jersey during his SiriusXM show, “Andy Cohen Live.”
Speculation arose after Wakile’s surprise visit on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” where she delighted fans and guest Gary Janetti with her iconic cannolis.
Responding to a caller’s inquiry, Cohen clarified the intentions behind Kathy’s appearance.
“It’s funny that you say that,” Andy noted, dispelling any notion of a hidden agenda.
“I wanted to bring this up because I went online this morning and I saw last night on ‘Watch What Happens Live,‘ the doorbell rang, and Kathy Wakile showed up with cannolis. The speculation online was that it was some sort of subliminal signal or we were testing things to see how people responded to seeing her in the clubhouse as a possible return to Jersey.”
He further explained, “There was no intention behind her visit besides seeing an old friend. We wanted to surprise Gary Janetti, who we know loves her and her cannolis. And so we just thought it would be fun if we had a, you know, vintage housewife come through the door.”
Despite the buzz, Andy emphasized that discussions about the next season have not yet begun.
“Everyone is speculating that it was kind of a soft launch to getting her back. We haven’t even started talking about next season. We want this one to end, let it sit, and then we will get into it. But thank you. She did get a lot of love, I will tell you that. She got a lot of love.”
The conversation with the caller also touched on the future direction of the franchise, suggesting a possible shakeup similar to what was done with the Real Housewives of New York.
The caller expressed a desire to see fresh faces, stating, “It’s just, there’s all the negativity… Set them free. Let them move on to the new.”
Andy agreed, acknowledging the need for change within the series.
“We’re gonna figure something out. We’re gonna figure something out. We are all on the same page about that.”
Given the show’s dwindling ratings and waning fan interest, a shakeup seems like a sensible move to reinvigorate the franchise and recapture viewer engagement.
This discussion comes in the wake of a decision to forgo a traditional reunion for Season 14 of RHONJ, a move Cohen discussed earlier on SiriusXM’s “Reality Checked With Kiki Monique.”
After viewing the dramatic season finale, the producers decided that the episode served as both a conclusion and a reunion.
“I think that the main thing is this will all make sense once you see the finale. It is one of those classic Jersey finales that people will be talking about for a long time to come,” Andy explained. “And it’s shocking and it’s dramatic and it’s amazing TV. I’m telling you, when you see it, I think that you’ll feel complete. I really do.”
As the show continues to evolve, both fans and cast members are left anticipating what changes might come next for the iconic franchise.
