Sheree Whitfield BLASTED For Changing Her Title to “Dr” After Accepting Honorary Doctorate Degree from Diploma Mill!
Sheree Whitfield has been added to the roster of public figures awarded honorary Doctorate degrees, drawing criticism from onlookers who disapprove of the former Real Housewives of Atlanta alum adopting the title “Dr.”
On June 21, Sheree took to Instagram to announce her receipt of an honorary Doctorate degree from Harvest Christian University. Known for its lax standards in awarding degrees, critics label it as a diploma mill that dispenses degrees to those willing to pay. Sheree captioned her post:
“I am truly honored and grateful to receive my second honorary doctorate degree! This current honorary doctorate is from Harvest Christian University. I want to thank God, my family, friends, & supporters for always rooting for me in this journey called ‘life’. I never thought I would be saying Dr. Shereé Whitfield EVER, but that goes to show you that the man above has the final say 🙌🏽. If GOD is with you, Who could be against you?”
Amid Bravo Housewives facing suspensions, Sheree Whitfield celebrated a different accolade: receiving another degree. The former Real Housewives of Atlanta star was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from Harvest Christian University. However, this news has sparked mixed reactions among social media users. One per wrote, “Wow, just when you think the bar for academic integrity couldn’t get any lower, here comes Sheree with her ‘honorary’ Doctorate from a diploma mill. 🙄”
Another critic shared, “Can we normalize not celebrating honorary degrees like they have merit? It’s weird and slap in the face to those of us who have actually done the work to earn them.”
Someone else shared, “It’s weird that people are really congratulating her like she really achieved the accomplishment of a doctorate.”
A person noted, “I understand that you’re excited but changing your name to Dr Sheree Whitfield is a slap in the face to the people who actually earned that title through actual academic achievement and hard work.”
Another fan remmarked, “I was thrilled until I read it was honorary. Can’t call yourself a doc unless you go through defending your thesis, examination, and met all doctoral requirements. I have three degrees I have worked, stressed, and many sleepless nights to study/write papers. I can’t congratulate someone who didn’t earn it like the many of us who are still paying student loans years later. Sorry. Not sorry. Still love ya gal.”
However, despite mixed reactions, the mother of three is enthusiastically celebrating the honor. She even took the step of changing her Instagram name to “Dr. Sheree Whitfield.” In her caption, she expressed gratitude to God, her family, friends, and supporters.
While some Instagram users expressed less enthusiasm about Sheree’s honorary doctorate, others on X platform were particularly irritated by her adoption of the “doctor” title. Some users questioned the legitimacy of her receiving a degree in business administration, suggesting that her business ventures were not deemed successful enough to warrant such an honor. One commenter even opined that Kandi Burruss would have been a more suitable choice.
