Lala Kent Regrets Criticizing Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky’s Marriage
Lala Kent is addressing controversy following her recent podcast comments about Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky’s separation.
In a recent episode of her podcast, called Give Them Lala, the Vanderpump Rules star responded to rumors that her second pregnancy was a publicity stunt.
Lala denied these claims by drawing a comparison to speculation that Kyle Richards staged her split for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Amid listener confusion, Lala clarified her remarks on Teddi Mellencamp and Tamra Judge’s podcast, Two Ts in a Pod.
“I was trying to say, because people were saying I staged my pregnancy for a storyline,” Lala explained. “So I was saying, like, ‘Yeah, and Kyle and Mauricio staged breaking up their entire family for a storyline.'”
When questioned if she was being condescending, Lala admitted, “Yes,” acknowledging the need for better sensitivity when drawing parallels between her own situation and others’.
“I need to be better… So, I just, that’s what I was saying. I’m like, ‘Yes, people in this industry are shaking up the entire dynamic of their family after 27 years and four children for a storyline one season.'”
Lala Kent, taken aback when asked about her pregnancy, which was conceived via intrauterine insemination with a donor, responded with incredulity: “Is that really a question? That’s absurd.”
She expressed disbelief at the suggestion that anyone would alter their life to that extent for the sake of a TV storyline, pointing out the irony within the entertainment industry.
“That is so wild to me that that that that’s what people are saying, but it also tracks because there’s many people in Bravo,” she observed.
“Mauricio and Kyle, for example, they’re staging their breakup for a storyline. They’re changing the dynamic of their family and 27 years of marriage for a storyline. It’s absolutely absurd.”
Despite the controversy, Lala remains a fan of Kyle Richards, whom she previously praised on her podcast “Give Them Lala” and during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live.“
Richards and Umansky publicly announced their separation in July 2023 after 27 years of marriage, a decision that played out on RHOBH and Umansky’s Netflix reality show, “Buying Beverly Hills.”
Teddi Mellencamp clarified the intent behind Lala’s comments, noting the gravity of both Kent’s pregnancy journey and Richards’ marriage challenges as significant life events.
“I did not know that’s how people took it,” Kent admitted upon understanding the impact of her words. “Oh, no, I feel so bad.”
