Andy Cohen Blasts Bethenny Frankel: Claims She’s Leading an ‘Attack’ to Take Him Down!
Andy Cohen is firing back at Bethenny Frankel, accusing the former Real Housewives of New York City star of orchestrating a relentless “attack,” to bring him down.
Andy Cohen is sharing his thoughts on the ongoing “reality reckoning,” In a Vulture interview published on Monday, June 3, the Real Housewives producer spoke about a “sustained attack” over the past year, as the Bravo Network has been embroiled in numerous lawsuits and allegations of misconduct.
Former Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel ignited a “reckoning” last summer, advocating for reality TV stars to receive residuals like actors and writers, arguing that reality television exploits its participants.
Bethenny, who was once a close friend of Cohen, has claimed she “generated millions and millions of dollars in advertising and online impressions being on reality TV and [has] never made a single residual.”
“So, either I’m missing something or we’re getting screwed too,” she shared with her Instagram followers in July 2023.
Bethenny, 53, pointed to her initial paycheck from her first season on RHONY, stating she earned $7,250 in 2008.
However, by the time the Skinnygirl founder left the show in 2019 after eight seasons, she was reportedly making $1 million.
Bravo faced further trouble when former Real Housewives of New Jersey star Caroline Manzo filed a lawsuit, claiming she was sexually harassed and assaulted by Brandi Glanville during the filming of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip in Morocco. Additionally, Leah McSweeney sued Cohen and Bravo in February, alleging they “encouraged substance abuse.” Brandi has also accused Cohen of sexual harassment.
“There was a lot of noise. And I was definitely sad about it,” Cohen told Vulture.
Despite the ongoing controversies, Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen noted that he and the Real Housewives franchise remain as popular as ever.
“But I’m telling you — and it sounds like bulls–t — but when I walked into BravoCon, it was like, ‘Dude, get off Twitter. That’s a bunch of clickbait. This is sanity,’” Andy Cohen shared.
In May, Cohen also spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Bethenny’s “reality reckoning,” saying he has “a lot to say about that.”
“If you look at shows like American Idol, Survivor, The Bachelor, or the Below Deck people, 90 percent or more of the reality stars on them are on for one season or less. Also, acting is a full-time profession. You don’t go to school to be a reality star. Reality stars typically have other jobs,” he said.
“I think the way that Bravo pays people is that it’s a buyout — they’re buying them out for a show that can be distributed in certain ways, and the longer you stay on, the higher your salary gets,” Cohen explained. “And salaries for people who have been on a long time are really high. Look, you’re not drafted into the Real Housewives. You either want to be on the show or not, and you either see it as having some greater benefit for you or not.”
