‘Summer House’ Star Lindsay Hubbard Reflects on Dodging a ‘Massive Bullet’ with Ex-Fiancé Carl Radke
Lindsay Hubbard believes she narrowly avoided a difficult future when her ex-fiancé, Carl Radke, ended their engagement last August, just two and a half months before their wedding.
“I really truly feel thankful that the universe, or God, or whatever higher being you believe in, stepped in and saved me from a really long, hard, rough life ahead,” Lindsay, 37, shared in a Glamour profile published Thursday.
Reflecting on the breakup, Lindsay expressed gratitude for the lessons learned from the traumatic experience. “I learned a lot about what I’m not going to do in my future, especially in my romantic life,” she explained.
Carl, 39, ended their relationship in their shared New York City apartment while filming the Summer House Season 8 finale. The emotional scene aired on Bravo Thursday night, but Hubbard watched it in advance.
“I kept reminding myself when I would watch each episode that it was the past,” she told Glamour. To manage her anxiety, Lindsay chose to watch several episodes at a time, spacing them out rather than viewing them weekly with the audience.
Hubbard maintained that she was blindsided by the split and didn’t notice any red flags until Radke ended the relationship. “I was so in it, and I’m such a fighter. I will never walk away until I can look at myself in the mirror and know that I have done everything humanly possible to make something work,” she said.
After the breakup, Lindsay’s co-star Gabby Prescod helped her reflect on the relationship. “As we put everything on the table, I saw the red flags that I had been ignoring, out of love, and maybe out of the [desire for a] fairytale,” she acknowledged.
The couple, who got engaged in August 2022, faced significant communication issues. Throughout the season, viewers saw Radke, then unemployed, pitching career ideas to Hubbard, who responded with logistical questions. Radke often felt he needed support rather than interrogation, leading to tension.
In one of their final on-screen arguments, Carl asked Lindsay for a hug, instructing her to hold him tighter. Reflecting on this moment, Hubbard said her “skin was crawling.”
Lindsay admitted she might have unintentionally made Radke feel “dumb” by asking questions he couldn’t answer. She also addressed the tension over Carl’s sobriety, justifying her concerns but admitting her “delivery was s–t.”
“It’s hard to understand what it’s like to be with an addict unless you experienced it for yourself,” she explained. “At the end of the day, Carl was the love of my life. This was the guy I’m about to marry and spend the rest of my life with. He was my partner. He was my future husband. So when I’m questioning certain behaviors of his, it came from the right place.”
Despite the heartbreak, Hubbard has gained valuable insights and is moving forward with clarity and newfound wisdom.
After they broke up, Lindsay Hubbard revealed on the “Bitch Bible” podcast that she has rekindled a relationship with a man she first dated in the winter of 2020.
