Scheana Shay Reveals Ultimatum Given By Proudcers That The Show Would Be Cancelled Due to Lack of Drama!
In a candid revelation on her “Scheananigans” podcast, Scheana Shay shed light on the backstage dynamics of Vanderpump Rules‘ tumultuous Season 11, addressing the impact of a pivotal meeting with producers.
Detailing the pressure cast members felt after an offscreen discussion with executive producer Alex Baskin, Scheana disclosed, “It was a whole season of feeling like we all kind of had to walk on eggshells.” She revealed the ultimatum given by producers: “‘X, Y and Z needs to happen. Or we’re going to have a short season and the show’s going to be canceled and that’s it. Go live your lives.’”
This conversation had significant ramifications for Scheana and co-star Lala Kent, who admitted to feeling pressured to salvage the season to avoid cancellation. As Season 11 delved into the aftermath of Tom Sandoval’s infidelity with Rachel “Raquel” Leviss, the cast grappled with shifting loyalties and interpersonal conflicts.
Baskin’s insights, shared in a February profile of Sandoval, revealed the critical juncture the show faced. “As filming for the new season got underway, Bravo had a problem,” the article stated. “The cast had turned on Sandoval; Madix refused to interact with him altogether.” Baskin described a pivotal meeting as a “Come to Jesus” moment, emphasizing the uncertainty of the show’s future.
Scheana further illuminated her decision-making process on reconciling with Sandoval, highlighting the broader impact of their actions on the show’s production crew. “There’s a crew of 80 to 100 people who work on this show,” she emphasized, underscoring the collective responsibility to maintain the show’s viability.
Following the intense scrutiny surrounding their interactions with Sandoval and Madix, both Scheana and Lala faced criticism. However, while Lala issued an apology for her conduct, Scheana defended her stance, affirming her commitment to the show’s continuation.
Reflecting on the complexities of the situation, Scheana acknowledged the validity of differing perspectives, particularly Ariana Madix’s steadfast boundary-setting. “I always see both sides,” Scheana concluded. “So there are two things that can be true at the same time.”
