Susan Lucci Talks ‘The Golden Bachelorette’ Offer to Join!
Though Susan Lucci enjoys The Golden Bachelor franchise, she isn’t prepared to take on the lead role.
The celebrated actress shared with PEOPLE that she was approached to star in The Golden Bachelorette for its upcoming debut season.
“I believe that they contacted my publicist, and it wasn’t for me,” Lucci said. “I watched ‘The Golden Bachelor.’ I really enjoyed watching ‘The Golden Bachelor.’ This is a new addiction for me.”
Lucci explained that her mother, Jeanette Lucci, loved the show, but she herself wasn’t interested in the franchise until a “couple seasons ago.” It was her assistant who encouraged her to give “The Bachelor” a try.
“My assistant told me she was going home to watch ‘The Bachelor’ with her daughters,” Lucci told the outlet. “She said, ‘Well, it’s really good.’ I watched it. The first time I watched it was that night a couple seasons ago. I was immediately engaged. I cared. I wanted to know more about these people.”
Despite the reality television franchise becoming her “new guilty pleasure,” Susan Lucci declined the offer when approached about starring in “The Golden Bachelorette.”
“I didn’t pursue [it] when they called my publicist to see if I would be interested. It wasn’t for me, but I do love watching. I’m a fan. I love watching.”
Lucci, 77, was married to Helmut Huber from 1969 until his death in 2022. Huber, an Austrian television producer and writer, passed away at 84 after a sudden stroke.
ABC and Warner Bros. typically refrain from commenting on casting decisions. A source revealed to the outlet that Lucci was never in consideration for the role of The Golden Bachelorette.
Representatives for Lucci did not promptly reply to Fox News Digital’s request for a statement.
Earlier this month, ABC revealed that Joan Vassos would be the next contestant seeking love after her unsuccessful attempt during Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor.
Vassos, 61, participated in Turner’s debut season of the “Golden” franchise but had to exit the show during its third week due to a family emergency.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vassos’ season is set to premiere in the fall.
After the announcement, Gerry Turner took to Instagram to wish Joan Vassos luck on her upcoming quest for love.
“Dear Joan, Congratulations on being named the first ever ‘Golden Bachelorette,'” Turner wrote. “You will be phenomenal as the new representative of a generation. From one Golden to another … relax, breathe and enjoy, Gerry.”
Gerry captioned the post, “And, ABC makes History, once again!!!” Turner has been dominating headlines since announcing his divorce from Theresa Nist three months after their televised wedding.
