RECAP: ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Lala Kent SHADES Ariana Madix’s New Man Daniel Wai: “Something’s Off!”

Lala Kent isn’t holding back her feelings about Ariana Madix’s new beau, Daniel Wai, bluntly declaring that something about him just doesn’t sit right.

During the April 30th episode of Vanderpump Rules, the cast and viewers were introduced to Daniel Wai, Ariana Madix’s new boyfriend.

The couple traveled to San Francisco together, marking Daniel’s first official appearance on the show. While Ariana, 38, was thrilled about having Daniel by her side, not all cast members shared her enthusiasm.

 Lala Kent , 33, expressed her reservations about Daniel Wai from the start.

“My first impression of Dan? Let me put it this way, you can tell me he’s a great guy all the livelong day,” she said to the cameras. “I think it is f—king weird that any dude would be like, ‘She’s The One. Just left her dude of 10 f—king years and they still live together.’”

Despite her initial doubts,  Lala  did not hesitate to compliment Daniel when they visited him and Ariana in their hotel room, remarking on his “fine-looking ass” and noting his “good body” as he prepared for an evening out.

Lala’s skepticism isn’t new; she has fluctuated between approval and concern regarding Ariana’s dating choices, especially after Ariana’s unexpected breakup with Tom Sandoval. Lala’s past experiences with her own messy relationship and Ariana’s sudden split from Sandoval have influenced her perspective. “Ariana gets a new man, and I’m like, ‘What’s his motive? This is weird,’”  Lala  confided to her mother, Lisa Burningham, earlier in the season.

Ariana and Daniel’s relationship, which started casually after meeting at a mutual friend’s wedding shortly after Ariana’s breakup, has grown more serious over time.  Ariana shared her happiness with Us Weekly in an October 2023 cover story, praising Daniel for his incredible support and the sacrifices he makes for her, particularly highlighted by his actions while she competed on “Dancing With the Stars.”

The dynamics of Ariana’s new relationship have even influenced her views on starting a family, a topic she reflected on during a February episode. “In retrospect, Tom being my partner affected my feelings on having kids a lot more than I thought it did,” she revealed. “I feel like with Dan, I’ve kind of had my eyes open to the fact that there are different types of partners out there who would actually be a real 50/50 partner.”

Daniel’s first appearance on the show also saw him deciding to keep his distance from the drama, particularly from Sandoval. Despite the potential for conflict, Daniel remained detached, stating, “I am just unbothered. I think it is the best way to describe it. … [Sandoval] hasn’t done anything to me but I know what he has done.”

Ariana Madix, known from “Vanderpump Rules,” began a new relationship with Daniel Wai shortly after her breakup with long-time boyfriend Tom Sandoval, who had an affair with co-star Rachel “Raquel” Leviss. Madix and Wai met at a friend’s wedding in Mexico and were later seen together at Coachella in April 2023. Initially, Madix wasn’t seeking anything serious, but by May 2023, People Magazine indicated that she was falling in love with Wai, appreciating how well he treated her and the fun they shared together.

Daniel Wai is based in New York City and has a background in computer science, business, and math. He pursued a corporate career in consulting with Fortune 500 companies while maintaining a strong interest in physical fitness, participating in weight training and boxing. Eventually, Wai shifted his career to focus fully on personal training, finding it more fulfilling than his consulting work. After years in the consulting field, he transitioned to full-time training following his certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
