Lisa Vanderpump Dismisses Jax Taylor’s Claim That ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Is Scripted
Lisa Vanderpump has refuted Jax Taylor’s claim that the authenticity of Vanderpump Rules diminished over time, describing the early seasons as “organic” and “real,” compared to the recent “fake” and “scripted” ones.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star dismissed the idea that the show is scripted. “I think it’s absolutely ridiculous to say ‘scripted.’ Nobody can write a script like Vanderpump Rules,” Lisa commented. She humorously added that perhaps Jax Taylor’s actions during his eight seasons on the show were “scripted,” but insisted this was not the case for the rest of the cast.
Lisa Vanderpump responded with sarcastic wit to Jax Taylor’s recent claims about the reality of Vanderpump Rules. In the interview, Lisa expressed skepticism about Taylor’s assertions. “Maybe he sits at home in his little bedroom and writes his own scripts. Well, what do I know? Anyway, for the most part, anything Jax says doesn’t make any sense to me,” she remarked.
This response came after Jax Taylor, in a video earlier this month, vehemently criticized the authenticity of the show during an event at his new bar, Jax’s in Studio City, California. Holding a microphone, he exclaimed, “Show me a scripted show, and I’ll show you f—king ‘Vanderpump Rules.’ Scripted! Scripted! I’ve been on this show for nine f—king years … this is scripted.”
Jax Taylor recently voiced strong criticisms about the authenticity of Vanderpump Rules, especially in contrast to the show’s earlier seasons, during an event at his bar. He claimed that current cast members do not genuinely socialize outside of filming, labeling the show as “disastrous” and “fake.” Reflecting on the series’ origins, Taylor remarked, “Don’t get me wrong: When we started, it was awesome. Seasons 1 through 6 [were] organic; it was real.”
He contrasted this with his new spinoff, The Valley, which he described as a “real show,” suggesting it captures more genuine interactions and dynamics. However, following the public reaction to his candid comments, which quickly spread online, Taylor expressed regret. He admitted to being “embarrassed” by the attention his outburst received, indicating a retreat from his earlier stance.
Jax Taylor addressed his previous comments about Vanderpump Rules during the April 11 episode of his podcast, When Reality Hits, which he co-hosts with his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright. Acknowledging his tendency to speak out, Jax Taylor admitted, “I have a big mouth, and it gets me in trouble from time to time. I regretfully went on a rant about how Vanderpump Rules is scripted. I’m incredibly embarrassed by that.” Reflecting further, he retracted his earlier statements and praised the show for its authenticity, calling it the “most authentic” reality TV show available.
In a recent episode of Vanderpump Rules, Jax co-hosted a brunch at Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant SUR. The event, orchestrated by James Kennedy, led to dissatisfaction from Lisa, underscoring their tumultuous relationship.
Jax, who had been part of the show until a cast purge in 2020, made his comeback despite previously expressing disdain for Lisa Vanderpump.
“Why are we having a brunch hosted by Jax Taylor? Jax Taylor has been so disrespectful to me publicly. Like, how did this slip through?” Lisa questioned, visibly frustrated with the decision. Her irritation was evident in a confessional where she said, “Jax has been pretty detrimental about me in the past and God knows I’ve given that man many chances. But if you’re going to negate me publicly, why come have an event at my restaurant?”
The situation escalated when Taylor attended the brunch and awkwardly asked to sit with Lisa and James, to which Lisa coldly responded, “I kinda do. I don’t even really want you to be here, to be honest.” Taylor, surprised, admitted his past negative comments about Vanderpump on a podcast, claiming, “Lisa’s a prop, she’s not needed, she’s superfluous,” though he confessed ignorance about the meaning of “superfluous.”
The tension peaked as Lisa reminded him of her restraint from retaliating in the media, and Taylor expressed feeling neglected by Lisa Vanderpump since his departure from the show. The confrontation concluded with a somewhat reconciliatory tone, with Jax apologizing and both acknowledging their past contributions to each other’s lives, albeit with Lisa humorously admitting, “I kind of love you too, even though you’re really f–king annoying.”
Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright, who announced their departure from Vanderpump Rules in 2020, have since ventured into new projects. Their latest endeavor, a spinoff titled The Valley also featuring Kristen Doute, another alum from Vanderpump Rules, premiered in March.
