‘Below Deck’ Drama: Ben Willoughby Fed Up with Season 11, Ready for Big Changes
Below Deck star Ben Willoughby recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the direction of season 11 on Instagram.
Responding to a fan inquiry about his future with the franchise, Ben Willoughby hinted at internal conflicts, stating:
“There’s too much that isn’t seen. I’m at a crossroads as [to] whether the truth needs to be told or I don’t let this consume me anymore.”
When asked about his highs and lows from the season, Ben admitted, “Low – not enjoying this season due to a number of factors. I never wanted to step foot on St. David again under those circumstances.” This season, Ben transitioned from lead deckhand to bosun after a crew reshuffle, a decision that didn’t sit well with everyone.
Ben suggested that the upcoming episodes would take an unexpected turn for him, lamenting, “I had my reasons for what I stood for. It’s a shame none of it will be aired.” Reflecting on his experience, he expressed regret about not pausing to appreciate the moments more, acknowledging, “You play into a character and that character has a harder or better time than others.”
Despite the challenges of reality TV — Ben expressed gratitude for the support from fans. He emphasized the discrepancy between reality and what is portrayed on screen, noting, “Reality TV isn’t easy by any means… It fits an agenda to gain attention/viewing.” Despite the frustrations, Ben remains appreciative of the connections he’s made along the way, stating, “It’s simply unfortunate how much is kept off air.”
Despite the upcoming drama, Ben expressed his willingness to participate in spinoff shows like Below Deck Sailing and Below Deck Mediterranean without hesitation. Reflecting on his experience, he revealed that his dynamic with Captain Kerry underwent significant changes throughout the season.
“Captain Kerry [has] very much of a military stance. [It is] more authority based. So that was a bit of a learning curve for me,” he explained. “It doesn’t really work with the style that I like with my leadership. So we did have a little bit of friction there and you might see a little bit of that coming up.”
Fans can catch Below Deck season 11 on Bravo Mondays at 9 p.m. ET, with new episodes available for streaming the following day on Peacock.
