Simone Biles Suffered Emotional Breakdown Following Husband Jonathan Owens’ Viral Interview

Simone Biles admitted that she was hurt by the backlash her husband, Jonathan Owens, received after his interview on the “Pivot” podcast went viral.

The NFL player sparked controversy after he claimed that he didn’t know who the decorated gymnast was before they began dating. When Owens was asked how he managed to woo the Olympic athlete, he quipped that he was the greater “catch” of the two.

“I always say that the men are the catch,” the 28-year-old commented.

Social media users ripped the Green Bay Packers player for insinuating that he was more of a catch than Biles, a seven-time Olympic champion.

Biles, who was present during her husband’s interview, addressed the controversy during a Wednesday appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. She pointed out that Owens “never said [she] wasn’t a catch.”

“He said he was a catch,” Biles, 27, said. “Because he is! I’ve never met a man like him.”

Biles explained that she thought all was well when the interview wrapped, but later realized that her husband was being slammed on social media.

“I thought everything was OK, and then I go on Twitter and everybody’s like, ‘Divorce this man. He’s mean!’” Biles recalled. “I’m like, ‘He’s the sweetest. He praises the ground that I walk on.’ Truly, I’ve never met a man like him … he truly goes out of his way to do anything for me.”

Biles shared that she while she initially found the situation amusing, it later caused her emotional strain.

“I thought it was hilarious at first and then it hurt my feelings,” she admitted. “One night I broke down and I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don’t know him. You don’t know who he is and if anybody’s met him, you know he’s the sweetest guy, will do anything for anybody.’”

Biles continued — “That really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that. For me, it’s like, talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, never.”

Biles didn’t let on that she was hurting as she hit back at the online critics.

🤞🏾💋 for life,” she commented underneath her husband’s Instagram post captioned, “Unbothered 😂❤️ Just know we locked in over here 🤞🏽.”

Biles and Owens’ marriage was seemingly unfazed by the harsh blowback, which included calls for the gymnast to divorce her husband.

The couple wed in 2023, after dating for three years.

Owens is reportedly trying to get a pass from summer training camp in order to support his wife at the 2024 Olympics.

“I mean, in Paris I think they will do a beautiful job and he doesn’t travel overseas too too much,” she said. “He had to get a passport — he never had a passport before.”

Biles joked that she hoped that the experience would bring her husband down a peg, as he often insists that football is harder than gymnastics.

She remarked —“I’m excited for him to see the Olympics because football’s not in the Olympics and he always says it’s the hardest sport, it’s universal. So, why is it not in the Olympics?”
