Mama June Shannon Turns to Ozempic Amid 130-Pound Weight Gain
Mama June Shannon has jumped on the Ozempic train after packing on 130 pounds.
The Mama June: Family Crisis star was prescribed Ozempic injections by her doctor, Dr. Anna Chacon, and invited fans to follow her weight loss journey.
June explained her new weight loss strategy in a video posted on Instagram Tuesday.
The reality TV matriarch said that she realized that she was putting on weight after previously losing more than 100 pounds following gastric sleeve surgery. She added that stress following the death of her eldest daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, was likely partially to blame for her weight gain.
“Since the surgery, I kind of kept off the weight,” the 44-year-old said in the video. “I stayed at like 130, 140, 150 lbs.”
June continued — “Well, I have noticed over the last, like, year and a half, that I’ve really put on weight. With the stress of everything going in, eating out, not eating right, just all kinds of stuff, I have packed on about 120, 130 pounds.”
“I decided to go with semaglutide a couple months ago through my main doctor,” she explained.
June explained that she planned to use the generic form of Ozempic to get back on track.
“Come along with me as I go through this journey,” June wrote alongside her IG video. “I know a lot of y’all are on similar journeys so let’s do it together.”
“Tell me what your experiences are pros and cons and everything,” she continued, tagging Dr. Anna Chacon. “I will be updating every week how things are going as I know I’m not the only person that has struggled since having a bariatric surgery.”
She added — “[With] Dr. Anna Charon u can do on a telehealth from your home or in person.”
June’s daughter, Anna, passed away in December 2023, after battling adrenocortical cancer for nearly a year.
“My mind is so emotionally and mentally mindf—– right now,” June wrote shortly after her daughter’s death. “It’s so quiet in here, the machines aren’t running, [Anna’s] not sitting in here watching cooking shows, and it’s just so quiet.”
June’s health update came after the reality series highlighted her husband, Justin Stroud, warning her to pay back money owed to her youngest daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, or face the end of their marriage.
Earlier this season, June admitted that she had skimmed cash from Alana’s Coogan account, a trust in which parents of child stars are legally mandated to deposit a percentage of the minor’s earnings. Justin demanded that June, a former crack addict, repay the “Toddlers and Tiaras” alum, but his wife refused.
June shocked her family when she didn’t cave and informed her husband that she would abide by his decision if he chose to walk away from the marriage.
