Identical Twin Sisters Wed Identical Twin Brothers – Their Children Are Siblings
Identical twins, Brianna and Brittany, 35, who married identical twins, Josh and Jeremy Salyers, 37, are introducing their baby boys to the world. The sisters revealed that their little ones are more like brothers than cousins, due to their rare genetic similarities.
“You’ve heard the term Irish twins and you’ve heard identical twins and fraternal twins,” Briana told TODAY Parents. “But we have quaternary twins.”
Jett Salyers turned one in January and Jax Salyers will celebrate his first birthday next month. The little boys are legally first cousins, but genetically brothers.
“They were born to identical twin parents less than nine months apart,” Brittany explained. “Twins married to twins who both have babies at the same time.”
Because identical twins share the same DNA, the offspring of two pairs of identical twins are more genetically matched as siblings than as cousins.
The sisters revealed that they had discussed the possibility of having quaternary twins.
“We were hoping that we would have overlapping pregnancies so that this would happen. We thought it would be really cool,” Briana said. “There’s only 300 quaternary marriages known in the history of the world.”
The couples, who share a joint Instagram account, took to the platform to post side-by-side shots of their sons and reveal their rare connection.
The caption read — “Jett and Jax: Cousins, Genetic Brothers, and Quaternary Twins!”
Brianna and Brittany married Joshua and Jeremy in a joint wedding ceremony, covered by TLC, at the 2018 Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio. The couples first met at the Twins Days Festival the previous year.
The two couples live in the same house in Virginia and operate a wedding venue together.
“It was something we all four wanted and when we got engaged, we all wanted it that way,” Brittany told the news outlet. “It’s something that’s very nice. (Josh and Jeremy) understand the twin bond like we do. We get to have a lot of together time.”
Brittany admitted that they’re occasionally hit with negative feedback as they chronicle their unique family journey on social media.
“We try to ignore sociopathic stalker comments and just focus on the positive,” Brittany said. “Some people think we are really strange and others think it’s really amazing. We’ve gotten a lot of support and interest and we’ve been grateful for that.”
Her sister added that both couples are undecided if more kids are in their futures.
“We are debating if we should go for one more pregnancy each or not,” Briana said. “We will make a decision pretty soon. The babies are still pretty young (and) we are trying to wait a little longer to see what to do.”
