Just before the news of her DUI charge became public, Karen commented on the situation. She mentioned that her emotions were heightened due to a recent conversation about her late mother, which occurred during dinner with a friend, leading up to the moment she decided to drive her 2017 Maserati.
“Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience. I am still in shock from last nights incident, but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my Beloved Mother, Grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mothers Day approaching it has felt more like a tsunami,” she told TMZ.
Karen further detailed the events leading up to her arrest, sharing that the incident occurred after an emotionally charged dinner with a friend.
“Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics. I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider and then a tree. I’m hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive!”
Karen recounted the terrifying moment that led to her car crash. Despite sustaining injuries and receiving citations, including one unrelated to the crash, Karen expressed relief at being alive, noting the hit-and-run nature of the other vehicle involved.
Karen concluded her statement with reflection on the importance of being mindful of one’s emotional state while driving.
“I would like to stress, it’s important to understand your emotional state when driving and may this be a reminder to all to use their seatbelts, my Mother may be my Guardian Angel but the seatbelt saved my life,” she said, emphasizing safety and the life-saving role of seatbelts in her ordeal.
