Who Is Jeopardy’s Phenom Ben Chan!

Ben Chan is the current frontrunner in Jeopardy’s Tournament of Champions but many fans don’t know much about the Wisconsin native, who made a stunning comeback during Friday’s episode.

Ben Chan was born in Green Bay and has been on staff at St. Norbert College as a philosophy professor, since 2013.

He graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and later earned a Ph.D from the University of California Los Angeles. He went on to earn his postdoc in the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Chan’s relationship status and whether or not he has children remains unclear.

Chan racked up nine wins last season, raking in $252k. He was the first contestant to win all nine of his games, coming back from a rough road during his first run on the show, in May 2023.

Chan had to exit the show after his third win due to a Covid diagnosis. He later returned to the competition, where he faced off against Hannah Wilson in a “co-returning champions” category. The suspenseful match led to Chan defeating Wilson and taking home another $60k.

Wilson later declared on Reddit — “I couldn’t ask for a better opponent to get utterly thrashed by!”

Last week, Chan beat competitors, Yogesh Raut and Troy Meyer, by only $1 in an epic ToC finals Game 4. Chan pulled the same move to secure his win in Game 1.

Chan’s Friday victory put him ahead of both of his competitors, who have one win apiece. The first finalist to win three rounds in the best-of-seven series wins the $250k grand prize.

Chan’s win came after a bumpy ride to the top spot. He flashed a huge smile when he scored his first Daily Double in the Jeopardy! round, after incorrectly answering his first two clues. He trailed Meyer, who had $33,200, and Raut with $20,400, with his $12,800 heading into Final Jeopardy!.

Chan went all in on the Historic Americans clue and moved into second place with $25,600. Raut and Meyer both missed their clues, much to the shock of the studio audience.
