CNN Refuses to Air Ad Blaming President Biden for Nursing Student Laken Riley’s Murder
CNN was hit with backlash over the weekend after the news network refused to air an ad that accused President Joe Biden of being complicit in the murder of Georgia nursing student, Laken Riley.
Conservative group, Building America’s Future, pitched the one minute ad to multiple networks to run during Thursday’s State of the Union address. The group’s advisor stated that Fox News, MSNBC, and Newsmax all ran the ad during the SOTU speech, leaving CNN as the lone network that rejected the spot.
“CNN and Joe Biden are in lockstep once again: they won’t even #sayhername,” Phil Cox, advisor to Building America’s Future, said over the weekend.
“It is shameful that CNN is censoring the truth and trying to protect President Biden by refusing to air this ad,” Cox stated. “The American people understand that Biden’s open borders agenda is responsible for the death of Laken Riley.”
He concluded — “Building America’s Future won’t be deterred when it comes to the important work of informing the public on how we are all less safe in Joe Biden’s America.”
Fox News contributor, Guy Benson, also called out CNN for not accepting the ad. Benson alleged that CNN “ran out the clock on a pre-SOTU ad buy.”
Benson wrote on X Friday — “I am told that CNN is refusing to air this. They ran out the clock on a pre-SOTU ad buy — then rejected it, calling several of its claims unsubstantiated.”
The political commentator noted — “Fox and MSNBC aired it.”
The sixty second ad, titled “Run,” blamed President Biden for the college student’s murder, which occurred on February 22 in Athens, Georgia. The 22-year-old was taking a jog on Augusta University’s campus when she was killed by blunt force trauma to the head. The murder suspect is an illegal alien named Jose Ibarra. Georgia officials later accused Ibarra of “disfiguring her skull,” per a People report.
“Laken Riley should have been able to go on a run in broad daylight without being murdered by an illegal immigrant,” the Building America’s Future ad stated. “But Joe Biden promised not to deport illegal immigrants. Biden vowed not to detain illegal immigrants who cross the border.”
It continued — “Ibarra went to Georgia, where he beat Laken Riley to death. How many more killers has Biden set free?”
CNN later claimed that the group’s ad “failed to meet the network’s commercial clearance guidelines and policies” because its allegations were “unsubstantiated.”
President Biden was confronted by GOP House rep, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who challenged him to “say her name” during his address, Thursday night. He mispronounced the deceased nursing student’s name before offering his condolences to her grieving parents, who had turned down an invitation to attend the event.
“To her parents, I say my heart goes out to you, having lost children myself,” he said. “I understand.”
He later expressed regret for referring to the alleged killer as an “illegal” in a subsequent interview.
