81-Year Old Joy Behar Dodges Question About Being FIRED from ‘The View’

Joy Behar awkwardly dodged a question about being axed from The View back in 2013, during Tuesday’s episode of the ABC talk show.

The panel was discussing Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce’s emotional retirement announcement, when Whoopi Goldberg asked if any of the other ladies had landed in circumstances that caused them to wonder about the next step in their careers.

The 68-year-old moderator asked Behar — Did you go through this?” before Sunny Hostin pointedly added, “When you got fired?”

Joy Behar, 81, quipped in response — “I’m on my fifth act.”

Behar, one of the original panelists that launched “The View” in 1997, was fired from the show in 2013. She continued to appear as a guest host throughout the next few years, and was later asked back in a permanent role after new producers were hired amid a ratings decline.

An executive producer who wanted Behar back in the mix previously explained — “I just knew that we needed to get back into the cultural conversation. And I knew she was going to be the person who could actually do that. She’s always been the person who says what the audience is thinking but is afraid to say.”

Last November, Behar hinted at the reason behind the firing.

“It just shows you no matter how high your ratings are,  are, if you tick off somebody at the top, they will get rid of you,” she said, as the panel discussed the firing of Tucker Carlson from Fox News.

She added — “That has happened to me.”

The host revealed in a July 2022 interview with Time that she was “glad” that she was dismissed from the daytime show.

“I was glad to be fired,” she told the mag, adding that she was “sick of the show at that point for some reason, I don’t even remember why.”

Sunny Hostin

Hostin credited Behar’s ability to let things go, at the time.

“She doesn’t hold a grudge,” Hostin told the outlet. “I think because she doesn’t remember what happened the day before. That’s how she’s been able to deal with this show. She just leaves it at the table and then moves on for another day.”

In 2021, Behar told People that she was happy to suck it up and apologize, for the good of the group.

“I’ve had to apologize, which I’m happy to do in order to save mine and everybody else’s job. I don’t care. Even if I don’t mean it, I’ll do it,” she explained. “Even if I look like I’m in a hostage takeover, I’ll still do it, because if you don’t do it, you lose your job and everybody else’s.”

The View airs weekdays at 11 am ET on ABC.
