Kate Middleton’s uncle was warned by her parents against dishing family secrets ahead of his Celebrity Big Brother debut.
Gary Goldsmith, brother to Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, was “read the riot act” before he entered the Big Brother House, where he will live with co-stars, compete in challenges, and navigate drama. Carole is reportedly “infuriated” that her brother is participating and is concerned that he might spill royal secrets, according to The U.S. Sun.
The Palace is reportedly nervous about Gary’s reality TV journey and what he might say along the way. The show premiered on Monday, as the Princess of Wales continued her recovery nearly seven weeks after undergoing abdominal surgery.
A source told the outlet — “Gary said he’s been read the riot act by Kate’s mum Carole and her dad Michael.”
“They aren’t happy he’s going into ‘Celebrity Big Brother,’” the insider added. “It is infuriating for them. Kate doesn’t need this stress.”
The tipster claimed that Prince Harry and wife, Meghan Markle, might land in Gary’s crosshairs as the inevitable drama unfolds. Gary reportedly stayed under the radar at a London hotel after arriving at the ITV studios on Sunday, ahead of “Celebrity Big Brother’s” live launch on Monday.
Gary’s inner circle believes that he will only have good things to say about his niece. He attended Kate’s 2011 wedding to Prince William and her sister, Pippa’s nuptials to billionaire James Matthews, in 2017.
The source explained — “In the eyes of the public, Gary’s become the black sheep of the Middleton family. Carole is his sister, so there will always be love, but they no longer see eye-to-eye on lots of things.”
“He has said he doesn’t have their blessing to go into the house but is going full steam ahead anyway,” the insider added. “He wants to defend his family. Gary wouldn’t do anything to embarrass Kate or William, who he thinks a lot of.”
The source added — “With Kate being out of the public eye at the moment and William shouldering a lot, the last thing they want is for Uncle Gary to be causing any embarrassment on television. Gary has said he knows what he is doing and has told his friends he’d never do anything to hurt his family.”
However, it appears that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might not be so lucky.
The insider dished — “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are more than likely going to be in the firing line as Gary has made no secret about how little he likes them.”
Last year, Gary vented his feelings about the couple after the release of Harry’s autobiography, “Spare.” He ripped into Harry for writing about Kate and Meghan’s clash over bridesmaid dresses, in his Daily Mail column.
“I’m particularly appalled by his vile confection of half-truths and complete fabrications because Kate is my adored niece,” Gary said in October. “Kate is self-sufficient, resourceful and extremely capable. She is not a drama queen.”
“She’d never pile more pressure on a bride,” Gary noted. “After all, she knows the tensions involved when you marry into the Royal Family all too well.”
“All it will do is make the gaping chasm between them unbridgeable,” he said of Harry’s memoir, which he claimed had only further fractured his family.
Kate is not expected to resume her official duties until April.
