On Saturday, the comedian appeared via Zoom at the “A Different World” HBCU College Tour, in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Sinbad, who appeared on a large screen, was met with cheers and applause from an audience of mostly college students. The event marked Sinbad’s first appearance since suffering a debilitating stoke, in 2020.

The comedian played Coach Walter Oakes in 77 episodes of “A Different World,” between 1987 and 1991.

Sinbad later took to Instagram to express his gratitude to the students.

“Man, that was so cool. A Different World going to Atlanta, going to Morehouse College and on campuses and getting a chance to be on Zoom and say something to the kids,” Sinbad declared in the touching video message. “It’s wild that the kids even know who I am. That’s beautiful.”

He added — “Thank you to everybody’s who’s been praying for me and saying good things and supporting me during this time in my life. It means a lot to me. It means so much when I hear from y’all.”

The humble TV personality shared that his condition was improving, emphasizing that “miracles happen.” He promised that his fans could “expect to see more of me soon.”

The comedian’s family released a statement after he suffered the stroke, in October 2020. They shared that they were “faithful and optimistic that he will bring laughter into our hearts soon.”

In November 2022, a close college friend of Sinbad’s gave ET an update on his condition.

“He’s in the process of rehabbing from the stroke and learning to enunciate words and get his mobility back, at this time,” Phyllis Johnson told the outlet at the time.

She clarified that while her friend’s condition was not grim, it was grueling.

“Just learning to walk and talk, and do all the things he could do for himself that he needs assistance with now,” Johnson explained.
