‘RHOA’ Alum Peter Thomas Slapped With Whopping $9 Million Judgement Over Restaurant Drama!

Former Real Housewives of Atlanta celebrity Cynthia Bailey’s former spouse, Peter Thomas, faced a hefty seven-figure judgment related to a Miami restaurant he intended to launch.

Court documents reviewed by RadarOnline.com reveal that a Miami judge issued a default judgment last month in favor of DTS DT Retail, targeting Peter Thomas, his shuttered Miami eatery Bar One Miami Beach, and his distinct venture 1 Society.

Peter Thomas operated Bar One from 2019 until its eviction in late last year due to overdue rent. Prior to this eviction, Peter aimed to launch a distinct “upscale supper club” known as 1 Society, with intentions to invest $3 million into the initiative.

However, the project failed to materialize, and the entity established for 1 Society was subsequently dissolved.

DTS DT Retail, serving as the landlord for the site earmarked for the opening of 1 Society by Peter, initiated legal action against Thomas and his enterprises in January 2023. The landlord alleged that 1 Society had entered into a 120-month lease agreement for the premises.

DTS DT Retail accused Peter’s business of breaching the lease agreement by not paying rent from October 2022 through January 2023. During that period, DTS asserted that 1 Society was in arrears to the tune of $61,000. Furthermore, the landlord pointed out Thomas’ failure to deliver the Tenant Plans within 30 days after the lease was signed, a stipulation included in their agreement.

The company also reported that 1 Society declined to surrender the keys despite these violations. Consequently, DTS sought a court order for Peter to vacate the premises and to settle the outstanding rent.

Peter and Bar One were named as defendants in the lawsuit because they acted as Guarantors for the lease.

In his defense, Peter refuted all claims of misconduct, contending that DTS violated the lease agreement by not granting him “sufficient access to the premises.” He maintained that this breach by DTS “excused his obligations under the lease until the breach was cured.”

While Peter presented a response to the allegations, 1 Society did not submit an official reply. This absence of a formal response resulted in the judge issuing a default judgment against 1 Society, mandating that the company vacate the premises without delay.

In a recent motion for a default judgment, DTS presented the argument that 1 Society and Peter had failed to fulfill their lease obligations, including the base rent starting from March 1, 2023, as well as other operational costs such as insurance and property taxes. DTS maintained that due to this default, 1 Society and Thomas should be held liable for damages encompassing accelerated rent and operational expenses as stipulated in the lease agreement. The landlord is seeking a total of $9,175,189.38, a sum that covers all rent due for the duration of the 120-month lease along with additional expenses.

On February 27, 2024, the court concluded in favor of DTS by issuing a default judgment and awarded the landlord $9.1 million plus attorney’s fees, holding Peter and 1 Society accountable.

Peter has communicated to RadarOnline.com his intention to challenge the court’s decision. Asserting his confidence, he remarked, “I’m going to win. They’ll never see a dime.” He criticized the landlord for overstepping boundaries and not delivering the keys promptly.

RadarOnline.com initially disclosed that Peter’s Bar One had been evicted from its seaside location due to unpaid rent, leading to the restaurant’s subsequent shutdown. Following this event, Thomas faced arrest in Georgia for driving under the influence. As of now, no criminal charges have been brought forward in relation to this arrest.

Peter and Cynthia, who were married for seven years, finalized their divorce in 2017.
