Heather Gay Admits She’s DONE Celebrating ‘Being Fat’ and SLAMS Body Positivity Movement as FAKE!
Heather Gay is calling the concept of body positivity “a big lie” after fessing up to using Ozempic to shed pounds.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star addressed being called out for not accepting herself prior to her weight loss, during an appearance on ABC’s “Impact x Nightline” on Friday.
“I’ve sold out, I’ve given up the banner of you know, accept yourself. And it’s disappointing and sad to know that body positivity was all a big lie,” she told visibly shocked host, Deborah Roberts.
Heather Gay plainly stated — “It is better not to be overweight.”
The 49-year-old reality star said that “everyone” she knew was taking the fad weight loss drug and “bragging” about the “magical” results.
Heather noted that she had been body shamed by viewers and even her cast mate, Mary Cosby, who remarked last season that she had never seen Heather’s Gucci corset in “a size 14.”
Heather said during the interview — “I didn’t want to show up at another party and see all of my friends 20 pounds thinner and just be resentful.”
The Bravo star, who has lost more than 20 pounds, explained that she felt “pressured” to take Ozempic in a “last hope” attempt to lose weight.
She asserted that she had been treated better by friends and the general public since shedding the pounds.
She explained — “I started to feel seen for the first time — even after being on television, writing a New York Times bestselling book. For the first time, I was being valued by my castmates, by the public, in a way that I had never been valued before. And that felt to me … sad.”
Heather is one of many reality stars who have admitted to using the Type 2 diabetes medication to trim down.
Back in November, Heather declared that she had jumped on “the Ozempic train” in an interview with People.
“I’ve been on it for a long time, but hadn’t really seen much results. And I haven’t had massive results, but enough for people to notice, which is great,” the reality star told the mag.
“You lose five pounds, people are nicer to you,” she said at the time. “I don’t know why. It’s just the way the world works and that makes me sad for women. But happy that I’m down five.”
Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Dolores Catania, and Orange County “Housewife,” Emily Simpson, have both spoken out about using the drug for weight loss.
In July, Dolores explained to The U.S. Sun that she had lost 20 pounds using Ozempic and Mounjaro, another FDA-approved prescription medication for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
“I took Ozempic, stopped and then began Mounjaro,” she told the outlet. “I was medically prescribed for both because I am insulin resistant/pre-diabetic and have a thyroid issue.”
