Porsha Williams Files for Divorce from Simon Guobadia Amid His Green Card Scamming Drama!
Porsha Williams and Simon Guobadia’s marriage is coming to an end over a year after they tied the knot.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star filed for divorce from Simon Guobadia on February 22 in Atlanta, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. Despite Simon’s recent immigration saga, a source has clarified that the divorce is “unrelated to recent allegations involving Simon’s past.”
The cause of their split remains an “ongoing matter,” according to the insider.
Porsha Williams, 42, and Simon Guobadia, 59, exchanged vows in November 2022 in a Nigerian traditional native law and custom ceremony, followed by an American ceremony in Atlanta.
Their engagement was announced in May 2021 after just one month of dating. “Yes, we are crazy in love,” Porsha captioned a selfie with Simon. “I know it’s fast, but we are living life each day to its fullest. I choose happiness every morning and every night.”
Simon echoed Porsha’s sentiments, expressing to his followers that he proposed because they fulfilled all of each other’s criteria and then some.
Earlier this month, the reality star-turned-entrepreneur, who is a mother to 4-year-old daughter Pilar from a previous relationship, revealed her return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta for its upcoming sixteenth season after a two-year hiatus from the Bravo series.
Additionally, Porsha signed an overall scripted deal with NBCUniversal, paving the way for scripted project opportunities across the company’s broadcast and streaming platforms.
“I’m incredibly thankful for the vision and faith NBCUniversal has put in me to be a larger part of their family,” she said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to being back on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and showing the world my new world!”
The divorce news comes on the heels of Simon facing challenges in securing his U.S. citizenship as his application was rejected due to his extensive criminal history and fraudulent immigration status. Detailed federal court documents obtained by All About The Tea outline Simon’s numerous criminal offenses, including multiple felonies, credit card fraud, bank fraud, identity theft, and a sham marriage used to obtain a green card.
Furthermore, court documents reveal that Simon has a history of multiple deportations from the United States and obtained his current green card through fraudulent means, putting him at risk for permanent deportation from the country.
Simon’s criminal history, detailed in court records, indicates that he first arrived in the U.S. in 1982 on a visitor’s visa but overstayed his authorized period, failing to leave the country as required. Subsequently, he entered a marriage with a U.S. citizen in 1985 and applied for an “Adjustment of Status.” However, his application was denied by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) on the grounds that his marriage was fraudulent, leading to the termination of his attempt to adjust his immigration status.
Porsha initially joined RHOA during its fifth season. Following her departure from the show in season 13, she and Simon were featured together on the Real Housewives spinoff Porsha’s Family Matters in 2021.
Her most recent appearance was in the third season of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, which aired last year.
